Get's worse by the year, even my sister couldn't be bothered to send me a card..
If that's how they want to carry on I think next year I won't be bothered to send birthday or Christmas cards and definitely no presents..;)

a few cards missing this year too.. ah well, its a few i dont write next year if im still around ...upward and onward it should be:)
Tales like that make me glad I'm an only child! ;)
Sad to hear, Bev...
Marco.
Colin and myself are quite happy by ourselves with all our friends so it's not a biggie loosing the family where all the problems lie ;)
I think Christmas brings out the best and the worst in people
Just trying to decide whether to call the family on Christmas day, as is usual, or just leave them to their own devices :(
Don't think it'd matter either way to be honest...
Do what's usual Bev.
Why ? they treat me like a lump of do do...
The discount applied is a good reason to pay by DD, *but* you need to monitor how much you're paying, based on your usage, to ensure that YOU are getting the benefit of paying bills that way, not your supplier, who otherwise will simply take advantage of any overpaid funds, in the way you have described.
Why do you think they offer that discount in the first place? Because they know that plenty of folks like you will be sucked in, and end up overpaying, and so they can redistribute those funds and/or gain interest from them, sitting in their bank account, which probably amounts to many MILLIONS of pounds of extra profit! ;)
What you should do is access your electricity/gas account on-line, via the website of your supplier, monitoring the balance on your account regularly, and as soon as a significant amount of credit has been generated (way less than £1600), ask them to refund you that amount - or even better take regular meter readings yourself, and enter those details into your account, before your bills have been generated, thereby ensuring that you're not continually overpaying.
And of course, as I've already said, if you had a smart meter you'd know *exactly* how much electricity/gas you were using at any given time, and so would always be in full control of your spending, but we won't go there! ;)
Lastly, I'd be insisting that your supplier refunded the £1600 over-payment (or a large chunk of it) immediately, as it's YOUR money, not theirs. Quite simply, there is no logical reason on their part for holding onto those funds, if your historical usage at this time of year, or any other, indicates that you're extremely unlikely to use that much energy.
You should always be "arsed" to take full control of any aspect of your spending, as it pays to do so, and unfortunately your lackadaisical approach to things is the reason that you're in this position. If you adopt a more proactive one instead in future, then what you're experiencing now won't happen :)
Marco.
i use a pre pay meter,i like the convenience and no shock bills.
Costs more that way, though. If you've got a correctly functioning smart meter, there are never any "shock bills" :)
Marco.
I don't see any point in sending Xmas cards to people you haven't seen or spoken to for years and years. Mrs Puffin gets out her annual card list and off she goes........
Interesting new aircraft. Chinese amphibious job!

Just been down Sainsburys for some last minute Xmas shopping (actually all of my Xmas shopping)
OMFG I wonder if the building has a maximum capacity as they must be close to exceeding it. And they'd only been open 20 minutes.
On the plus side they did have my doughnuts in stock for once. Minus side, forgot to buy batteries. Not going back in there again. Will have to rob them out of various remote controls. The children will wonder why their new toys die on Boxing Day of course but I'll be out of there by then :D
along with hundreds of thousands of others as the shops all being full show. many work and only get off on the eve. some like the bustle too.
Lol... Even when I was working, it'd still find time to shop, without waiting until the worst possible day to do so, especially just before Christmas.
I detest crowds with a passion, so even if I was tired, I'd still make the effort to go at a time when I could shop in a relaxed/stress-free environment [early morning/late evening], particularly now as supermarkets are open 24/7 :)
Besides, I thought you were going out to a hotel this year, so you shouldn't need much in the way of food before the shops open again on Boxing Day! :ner:;)
Marco.
Was buying presents. There's never a good time to do that.
TV has descended into xmas mode. Low budget dross and repeats of repeats. I opted to watch 'Aussie Gold Hunters' on Quest for the last hour or two. Been quite enjoying that.
Relax, that's a laugh. Have not stopped today since 0900. The shopping bit only took 20 minutes, I was in and out.
been busy too. blew tyres up and took car for a spin to keep it right for tomorrow, plus cooked a couple of breasts(fondled them first):eyebrows:, and cleaned 3 records.... god its just all to much. :D
Spent about 45 minutes out today walking pooch. Otherwise, done bugger all.
Might have a play with the Hi-Fi later.
Yesh, darling, but you could've been "in and out" last weekend (oo-er), leaving today free to do other things... Such as shlipping on ya gimp suit, banging on some Beyoncé, and prancing around ya lounge, with a roll-up, a can of Guinness and a cheeky wee GRINnnnnnnnn...!:dance: :D:D:lol:
;)

Drove the twelve miles from Chorley to Preston this morning, 13 degrees, sun shining, and didn't see a single kid out on a bike or roller skates. I suppose it's like Sheldon (Big Bang Theory) said: "Mankind has spent centuries perfecting indoors-why would I want to go outside?'
Only a week on from the shortest day and it's now dusk at 4.30pm. The days are noticeably starting to draw out, thank goodness :).
dark here. seemed to come down damn fast today
Funny how things turn out.

Just spent the last half hour unblocking a sink. Had to dismantle the U bend section to dislodge and remove the compacted sludge that had built up. Yuck!
I am always late to discover things but I found this today. Even bad news is not as bad when you read this site
https://www.bbc.com/pidgin
Mine needs doing but I have a bottle of that drain unblocker. Two liquids that mix as you pour it, dissolves the organic waste. Easier than pissing about with the u bend and getting black crap all over you. Done that in the past, now I'd rather spend the fiver. Whatever, it is quite satisfying when it has worked and the water runs straight down the plughole again. Little victories.
I bung a bit of caustic soda down the plughole about once a week. Never had a blocked sink waste.
Lol - it's shades of 'garlic press-gate'... There are ways of avoiding that, you know! :D
Welcome to the world of the sink plughole strainer; simply select your 'weapon' of choice, from the selection here, and fit it: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=si...GtHc8Ael1p64Ag
;)
We use one of these chaps: https://tapstore.com/basket-strainer...yABEgK_vPD_BwE The top section is removable, which catches any large pieces of food waste, and which you subsequently tip out and empty into the bin, allowing only liquid and the very smallest particles of waste through.
Nothing goes down our sink plug hole that's bigger than a bread crumb! Problem solved *at source*, and no more blocked sinks - happy days
Marco.
Just had to throw away a pair of Ted Baker boxer shorts because the elastic in the waistband has perished.
They only lasted 19 years. I shall be writing a letter of complaint to Mr Baker, fully expressing my annoyance and frustration.
