Nicely done sir :stalks:
Hi Dom,
Yes, in terms of fitting a top-notch plinth...
But if you've done nothing to address the 40-year old electronics inside (much of which, especially in 'knackered' ex-broadcast units, will be well past its sell-by date) then there's still plenty more work to do! ;)
Marco.
I will concentrate on the plinths and carts Marco, got enough on my plate with that! :eyebrows:
Hi Colin,
That's a difficult one, because there are many things I've done to my Techy which has fundamentally improved its sound.
I think if I were to single out one thing, it would be the first time I added a Paul Hynes off-board PSU. I was using a Timestep one at the time, and then heard Shuggie's SR3, which completely blew the Timestep away. Quite simply, the latter made the Techy sound limp, 2-dimentional, and just boring in comparison.
That one was quite a seminal moment in my appreciation of just how good the Techy could get, when a 'beefier' over-specified PSU was used, other than that which 'the guru' from Dartmouth had deemed as being 'plenty' ;)
But I'd say that it is the combination of upgrading the stock bearing and platter, for something significantly better (choose whichever available products you wish) that really makes the Techy finally 'grow up' and become a serious high-end contender! :)
Marco.
Good to know, cheers Marco.
I know this is slightly off topic but if anyone with an SP10 wants a high performance power supply for it I would be happy to oblige.
Regards
Paul
What would be good to investigate is how the electronics on the deck itself have aged as marco has said. maybe they haven't - the bearing is supposed to take years of 24/7 operation I believe..
Just a quick question , Marco or Martin but what is the approx weight of the
funk platter with magnet attached ?
