Seen this loads of times as it was my father's favourite film which he would insist on watching any time it was on. Which was quite a lot since it was often the 'Movie For A Dreary Afternoon' back in the late Seventies and early Eighties.
I cannot view it these days without thinking of Grandpa Simpson's classic line: 'I've not felt this relaxed and carefree since I was Watch Commander at Pearl Harbour.'
good film that. The Japs' Torpedoes at that time were 'the berries' and way ahead of the wests.. in fact they supplied all their info on them to germany during the war on request from germany. They could drop them and run in 20 metres of water after dropping them.. (type 91's)Quote:

According to the book "Billy Gibbons: Rock & Roll Gearhead", ZZ Top was hanging around the set, and was asked to be the town band. During one take, the camera broke. While waiting for the camera to be repaired, Michael J. Fox asked if they would play "Hey Good Lookin'" which they did. Afterwards, more requests were played. Two hours later, someone inquired if the camera had been repaired. Robert Zemeckis replied that it had been fixed for quite a while, he just didn't want to stop the party that had evolved.

The poem recited by Charles (Charles Laughton) and Libby (Vivien Leigh) is "The Green Eye of the Little Yellow God" by John Milton Hayes, written by 1911.
Made in London just before England's entrance into World War II, this film was co-produced by a refugee from Adolf Hitler, the great German producer of "Metropolis (1927)" and many other classic UFA movies, Erich Pommer. It was directed by an American from Hollywood, Tim Whelan, and features another American, the great harmonica virtuoso, Larry Adler, who was to return to live in exile in England after the war when he was blacklisted in the U.S. Adler went on write and play the score for the classic English comedy Genevieve (1953). The role of the tall busker Gentry was played by Tyrone Guthrie who would be knighted and would one day become Artistic Director of Canada's Stratford Festival and founder of the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis. This movie was edited by Robert Hamer, who would go on to direct the Ealing Studio comedy "Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949)." It also starred Charles Laughton as Charles Staggers, a young Vivien Leigh as Liberty (Libby)not long before she got the 'Gone With The Wind' role, and Rex Harrison ....
