In fact they should be done under the trade descriptions act for calling it Doctor Who. Although the reality is only the Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker eras were properly good. Before them it's patchy and after them it goes steadily downhill.
I never hid behind the sofa but I do recall having a few nightmares. It was Proper Telly.
I always used to wonder why UNIT ever bothered to carry weapons as every single monster or alien they ever encountered was completely invulnerable to small-arms fire.
Tom Baker was the Dr for me and also the last time I really enjoyed it.
My nan even knitted me the same scarf :D
Unfortunately the Bias Broadcasting Corporation are pandering to the younger generation without realizing that they don’t want to pay a TV tax for stuffs they almost definitely won’t watch.
The sooner they stop fleecing and threatening old people and go subscription the better.

Well I didn't get to go out last night - I phoned my mate's missus (he doesn't possess a phone) to check if my visiting them is still ok, and she said best not, what with the re-imposed restrictions, as it would be unfair to those abiding by the rules. I thought, well at least it gets me out of taking my power tools along to make this access hole in the floor for them, but no - "You can still do that job for us, as workmen are still allowed into customers' houses". Cheeky cow. But muggins here still went round and did that, because I'm such a soft arse :(
Still, the upside is that I awoke quite early, not feeling like shit :)
Yesterday was not a good day.
From 9.30am till 5pm I was fitting four new windows in the toilets of a business, up on ladders, in a white rendered south-facing wall. Made worse by the staff constantly disrupting my progress by needing the toilet. And not just for number ones :( Why can't folk do that before they leave the house? I never do a turd during working hours.
Then I had the job of repairing the render, while 15 metres away the beer garden of the pub next door was doing a great trade. Bastards. Anyway I promised myself a cold pint afterwards to motivate myself. And very nice it was too, the only good bit of the day.
You're self employed so there's no benefit. If you're employed by someone else though you should always try to ensure that you take a crap on their dollar. Crapping on your own time is sub-optimal.Quote:

A lot (not all) of the Pertwee stories were good. If they'd had proper special effects instead of 1970s BBC ones they would have been brilliant.

I think most people's favourite Doctor was the one who was place when they first encountered the series.
I'm old enough to have seen the very first episode of Doctor Who, so I have an admiration for William Hartnell, who played the part as 'world weary' grandparent and exiled Time Lord sentenced to wander about in time and space (though for reasons not explained at the time). His companion was his granddaughter who was abandoned on Earth by the Doctor for her own good, and started the institution of subsequent Doctors picking up waifs and strays (curiously all from planet Earth) to join him in his adventures.
I liked Patrick Troughton who played the part as a sort of cosmic 'hobo'; and whilst I never found the Daleks that scary, I did find the Cybermen creepy.
As mentioned above I never thought much of John Pertwee's tenure as the Doctor and largely stopped watching the series. As such, I saw very little of Tom Baker's stint and none by any of the other subsequent incarnations.
I became hooked again with Russell T Davies's revamped Doctor Who (with much, much better production values) and liked all the Doctors, though I lost interest half way through Matt Smith's tenure as the plots and back stories were becoming increasingly complicated and to my mind unbelievable, only to return with Peter Capaldi's incarnation.
But maybe I'm taking it all too seriously - it's a children's programme after all.
Thought Tom Baker to be the best Doctor; i liked his style in the day with the silly big scarf
Buy better quality toilet paper - you shouldn't need to use three sheets per wipe, two is quite sufficient. Don't blindly follow the advice from Andrex - it's in their interest for you to use as much paper as possible.

Dr Who? I'm with Macca on Pertwee (for reasons he's stated. Who remembers The Autons - scary shop mannequins with guns in their fingers - well fukkin' freaky and the stuff of genuine nightmares:eek:), but my fav was Tom Baker.
For me, that was the golden era, as it was smack in the zone when I was old enough to appreciate/follow stories properly, and also they were, IMO, the darkest/scariest, which is what I was always into. Plus, the Dalek episodes with Baker (with Davros, etc) were also the best!
Robots of Death, The Arc in Space and The Brain of Morbius, were the high points for me, for Dr Who - and all Baker.
I no longer watch the series now, as for me it's totally lost its way (gone too Harry Potter-esque, and all 'style over substance', with an over-reliance on entertainment provided by special effects) and what made it unique in the first place. Female Doctors and 'love interests/romances'? FUCK RIGHT OFF!:nono:
Also, what made the early stuff special. and created the eerie atmosphere synonymous with the best of Dr Who, was the sounds effects provided by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, and the superb work of Delia Derbyshire.
