I don't see that happening at all. If there's a war happening right next door seems to me that it makes sense to increase your defences, just in case.

I predict it will drag on the same way until Putin dies, or steps down due to ill health. Could be five more years or more.

Yep, so don't be worrying your pretty little head Mike, the worst will happen (or not) regardless of how much we fret over it. There's much more important things to be thinking about, like listing your records for sale :)

I suppose this reasserts Putin's power, I don't know much about the opposition parties in Russia - do they even have any? Or like Nalvalny do they just get thrown in jail on bullshit charges? To be fair though, you wouldn't want any of the super Nationalists to pull a coup on Putin, cos that would be straight to WW3.

Quite correct Mike, I'd say that's a pretty fair assessment... if all of those things had actually happened. But my point is that I'm not going to use up too much of my remaining time on this planet worrying about 'what ifs'.

It's a bit like 'The Sopranos'. Many who've pissed off Putin seem to have had bad or deadly experiences.

The video of the plane seems to show a puff of smoke before it falls, looks like a bomb or missile could have been used. Not that we'll ever hear the truth.
