What is the point of having a watch spending most of its time in a safe? I have worn my Rolex twenty four hours a day for the last fifty-odd years. The only time it is not worn is when I wear a dinner jacket, and then wear a dress watch (a square-faced Bulova) to go with it.
Think we’ve had this conversation before.
I’d always wanted a Sub and when I got the opportunity I bought one but it’s a sad indictment on the world today that it’s just not safe to wear it freely.
It gets dusted off for special occasions when there’s zero or little threat involved but I wouldn’t wear it to, say, pop down the shops. (I have, after all, a few other watches to choose from!).
I never purchased it as an investment piece but it’s become that, although I’d never sell it. It’ll be inherited by one of my partners grandsons who can decide if he wants to use it as a daily beater.
Above all I’ve had the pride of ownership of a very special timepiece.

As I said I have worn my watch everyday for the last fifty-odd years. I even wear it in bed because it keeps better time that way.
It has been all over the world with me, suffering temperature extremes of -20 to +40C and still performed flawlessly. When I'm in foreign countries where the standard of living is considerably lower than in the UK, I take care not to flaunt it, the same as would do with my cameras.
On only one occasion, when wandering around the back streets and alleys of Sana in Yemen, did I think it prudent to wear it 'American style'.
The thought of not wearing it to "pop down to shops" simply wouldn't enter my mind.
It was given to me by my parents and I feel it would be an insult to their memory not to wear it.
As I said I wear my Explorer 2 quite often, even to ‘pop down the shops’.
The ‘problem’ with the Sub is it shouts ‘I’m a Rolex’ to all and sundry and you have to beware of them ‘sundries’.
Problem is Roy that you don't look rough enough. If I were to wear a Rolex, folk would look at the watch, look at me, then assume it'll be a fake :)Quote:

A watch you can read in dim or no light is very handy. Not sure how I lived without it.
Got two Expeditions, here they are with my other Timexes. The blue one lights up but the green one is solar powered so kind of does the opposite.

Just a few observations, 60m water resistance on a ‘dive’ watch is ridiculous as is the fact it’s fitted with a leather strap? It’s imaginatively priced at £1200 for a watch fitted with a £300 movement but I understand they regulate it.Quote:

Some folks swap it out, but its part of its charm.
Mines came with the rubber divers strap, swapped it out pretty quickly.
