I'd seen it a couple of times previously and I do have the DVD. But it seems to get better with every watch.

League of gentlemen. Great robbery only caught due to political censorship of the time. These guys would have made it. Lol

As the snow continues to fall here in Wrexham and it looks rather bleak and wintry outside, it's time to cosy up beside the log fire and watch a good movie on the home-cinema system, so I've just selected this from Sky Movies:

Time to sit back, sip a nice warning cup of Asaam tea, with a slice of Del's homemade fruit cake, and enjoy the film! Laters

Rise of the Planet of the Apes.. Bluray

Love 'The Untouchables'. Everything about that film is perfect.
It was great, mate. Like you say, ticks all the boxes. Amazing it was produced in 1987... Still looks and sounds great on a 2018 home-cinema system! :)
Marco.
Yeah, it's 'Gli Intoccabili', The Untouchables. That would've been a cool poster (and nice to frame up)!
Marco.
Or maybe you're just 'touched'?;)
Marco.

Settling back to watch it now
Marco.
Have done, lol. Didn't know it was your fav film. Can't believe the picture quality from 1968!!:eek:
Who needs HDR?;)
Why is there no 5.1, though?:eyebrows:
Marco.
bluray has...English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (48kHz, 24-bit) maybe not enough bandwidth on download. i know streaming is lower rate than bluray
http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Once-U...-Blu-ray/7740/
Lol, nah was only kidding. Doesn't bother me, as it sounds superb just in stereo. I'm astounded at the picture quality though, from 50-year old technology... I guess some of it would have been valve-driven. The colours are so rich looking and vibrant!
Marco.
the bluray is fantastic. the stream i have from either amazon or apple is very good too but bluray remaster is amazing as you say for a 50 year old film. got soundtrack on cd and vinyl too. both remastered in italy
Might get the Blu-ray... Anyway, what a bastard for shooting that defenceless wee boy, after they'd killed his parents!! :guns:
Marco.
was a great bit of cinema producing mr nice clean cut guy henry fonda as mister evil.. nobody expected it.
Yup, the quality of the cast (and acting) is something else... Paramount must've spend a bomb in those days making it! It would've been big budget.
Marco.
$5 mil budget. Got it back in usa and was most popular in France of all places where folk started wearing duster coats:)
Wow - that would've been an absolute fortune in those days!!
Marco.
most of the location work was in spain and studio work in rome. the hanging scene was done at Monument Valley, Utah

The Hhost and Mrs Muir
Yes. I noticed that was on.
Good film. Got it in dvd
'Went The Day Well' (1943)
Dastardly Nazi paratroops disguised as Polish infantry take over an English village as the spearhead for an invasion.
Top film this and the inspiration for 'The Eagle Has Landed' as well as the original 'Dad's Army' film, which both borrow heavily from it.
By the time in the war this was made the Germans were doing badly on all fronts and there was no longer a danger of an invasion of the UK, so it was more a 'what might have been' than an outright propaganda film.
Obviously it works out for the plucky and resourceful Brits in the end. Great bit at the finish where a bloke takes us to the grave of the Germans in the church yard and says 'This is the only bit of England they ever got.'
Sherlock Holmes and the voice of Terror...

Star Trek. First contact. My Amazon library
Just finished watching '10 Cloverfield Lane' on 4. I'd never heard of it before, but it was pretty good. Way better than the original Cloverfield and totally different.
I didn't realise it was connected to the original Cloverfield or I would have watched it. I like that film a lot.
I liked this much more.
'Battlestar Galactica' on Forces TV
Not the remodel but the proper one with that bloke off of The A Team.
