I have heard of TDL speakers, which according to their history: http://www.tdl-loudspeakers.co.uk/history.htm, was founded by John Wright (¹) , who later went on to be one of the three new owners of IMF when the UK bought out the IMF name after the UK division parted company with the US parent company (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transm...ne_loudspeaker).

I'm not sure what the initials TDL stand for, but it is quite likely the 'T' is 'Transmission', and the name evolved to become 'Transmission Electronics'. So in that respect they could be regarded as being "classic vintage speakers".

(1) In the cited history of TDL speakers it is claimed that John Wright invented the concept of transmission line loudspeakers. This is incorrect, the claim ought to go to Dr Bailey, a lecturer at Bradford University who worked in conjunction with Arthur Radford to design the Radford loudspeakers, as well as the Radford SS amplifier: the STA30.

I suppose I should have a look through my IMF and TDL brochures, if I can find them :)'

(I have Hi-Fi brochures going all the way back to the sixties for stuff you would not believe :eek:)

I do remember many years ago seeing adverts for TDL, and it did indeed stand for Transducer Developments Ltd.

Hi Barry. I got that info from this link.

I also tried to find the base documents for that company but failed (may well now be in the National Archives). However it does seem that a company of that name was dissolved 43 years ago. The SIC code used then could well have covered a range of products including speakers. Often companies choose (or chose in this case) a general SIC code.

Rare vintage Luxman R-800 receiver. Very nice! I bought a similar, but less powerful R-600 brand new around 1973 and liked it a lot.
