I've always liked this Bordeaux, and have posted here on other year's vintages. But this 2020 vintage continues the reliable quality of this Château, so I'm posting about it again.
The "noise" surrounding Bordeaux is usually focused on the unreachable 1er growths. But, if you know where to look, there are bargains to be found. Ludovic Roussillon’s Château Le Coin is the perfect example. Thanks to the strict, historic appellation boundaries, Ludovic’s estate shares the same fine, Saint-Emilion limestone soil but falls just outside the official boundary, on the other side of the river. Meaning top-shelf wine but without the eyewatering price. Ludovic Roussillon isa one-man-band, growing his own grapes and making his own wine And his efforts pay off, winning countless Golds for his silky, rich claret.
Tasting notes: Smooth and silky with ripe damson, cassis fruit; hints of spicy oak
Aroma: Ripe plum with notes of tobacco and spice
14.5% ABV About £12 a bottle

Château Bois de Galet lies in the commune of Vignonet on the banks of the Dordogne. Family owned for three generations, the fifteen hectares estate is planted with the region's classic grape varieties on clay-limestone soils. The vines are grown with minimal intervention and every parcel is carefully tended to ensure full expression of this outstanding terroir. Château Bois de Galet is a deep ruby colour with ripe black fruit flavours, especially blackcurrent, velvety tannins and excellent balance and length.
Bordeaux's 2018 vintage was an "an exceptional year", producing "wonderful wines with a beautiful depth of ripe fruit and polished, strong tannins." In the early stages, however, it was a difficult vintage, but hot sunny weather from June until post harvest remedied that, hence the ecstatic praise from critics.
This wine is a blend of predominantly Merlot, plus Malbec and both Cabernets.

While this is definitely not their Grand Vin (you'd have to pay £600 a bottle for that), it is made from the same grapes, by the same team, with the same lavish no-expense-spared expertise. All classic ripe black fruit character, alongside cherry and plum, infused with subtle spice, cedar and tobacco. Triple Gold Medal winner.

Not many wines can boast 23 top Gold medals in six years, but that’s the triumphant haul for this claret, 2015 to 2020. It’s from a small estate in Saint-Germain du Puch, between Bordeaux and Saint-Emilion. The estate grows Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet on clay and limestone soils typical of the greater Saint-Emilion region. Winner of six Gold medals.

Bunnahabhain was founded in 1881 by William Robertson and brothers James and William Greenless. A very smooth, easy-drinking Islay malt, Bunnahabhain (pronounced ‘BOO-na-HAven’) closed and reopened twice during the twentieth century and eventually production was limited to a mere few weeks annually following Edrington's 1999 acquisition of previous owners Highland Distillers.
In 2003, Edrington sold Bunnahabhain to Burn Stewart Distilleries for £10 million. Included in this deal was the popular blend Black Bottle, whose contents feature a quantity of spirit from every distillery on Islay.
Today, Bunnahabhain production stands at 2.5million litres a year. Of this, 21,000 casks are kept at the distillery for maturation and the resultant whisky will be used for the Black Bottle blend and for bottling as Bunnahabhain single malt. The rest of the outturn is sent for maturation elsewhere.
In relative solitude, Bunnahabhain is the Northern-most Islay distillery. It sits in a large bay to the North East of the isle, drawing its water from the Margadale Spring.
