    Hi Reid,

I see some time ago, you were kind enough to help another member set up pre outs from his TEAC ah 300.

    http://theartofsound.net/forum/showt...-H300-possible

I'm looking to do the same, but some of the details/pcitures etc. have dropped from the thread. If you still monitor this account, any help you could provide would be great. No worries if not.

    Take it easy,
    Jake

    Hi Mark
I was very interested to see your PS Audio 600 post and comments. I have exactly the same unit that the current PS UK Agent have been wasting months on repairing. I've spoken to PS US . . a complete full circle of time wasting. Therefore I'm think to work on it myself and maybe even convert to a 60hz 115v supply by running one amp only to power some US equipment I have. I'd be really keen to know how you got on with your DIY service and rebuild ?
    Thanks
    Lensi

    Hi Mark,
I noticed your (what turned into) SDX15 build thread. I had a pair of these arriving today(from same source as your own, it seems he's sold both his own pairs) Have you put them to any use yet? If so, what use and how are they sounding?

My plans are less ambitious than yours. My wood work skills are poor so I'll be honing them on remodelling a pair of 112 litre PA cabs I have sat around to sealed boxes. If that works well I also have a 'hidden sub' plan of ditching half my bed base and making a pair of 200 litre under bed subs leaving only a dinky pair if Acoustic Energy AE1 speakers in sight.

Cabinets? Well they ARE ported; a bit transmissionline-like. the lack of Cross-over does make the sound coherent. I now have 3 sets of fullrangers. PAWO horns; Zigmahornets, plus my Ocellias.
I never needed too much power to run the Gs.Max 50 watts, less than 1/2 vol.
    Plug them in!

You're right about the bass units (3090s V Glastonburys). Though I recall the G's being pretty good in that department. The 3090s have a 'big' sound, but probably not a defined as the Gs.
I'm sure you'll like them. Basically, (as Max describes them anyway) a full ranger, with a 'tickler' for the top.
So, here I am, with the same thing (Ocellia Calliopes).....so; why did I change, I ask myself!
Playing 'Tin can trust' , Los Lobos on 3090s as Have house to myself!

I am interested in trying to convert my passive pair to aktiv, whereas the currrent crossover is internal.

Hi, i understand you have knowledge of Linn Isobariks ?
  9. I guessed you liked your Sci-Fi, your handle is a bit of a give away

It would seem we have similar tastes. I love the classic stuff from Asimov, Aldiss, Vonnegut, Clarke, Heinlen et al, but some of the new wave authors are as good, if not better. Patrick Tilley's Amtrack Wars series is pure class as is his book Mission, which is not only interesting and extremely well written, but is actually very funny too. Then there's my fave author of all, Greg Bear. Not only does this guy have a scientific background to back himself up, much like Arthur C Clarke, but he's an excellent scribe to boot. I'm currently reading Darwin's Radio by Bear, which is a truly scary book simply because it is so plausible.

Anyway, I could talk your legs off on Sci-Fi as competently as I can on Hi-Fi, so I'm going to butt out before the Ubah-Geek juices begin to flow...
  10. Aye, CD2 has some amazing highlights: The theme to Fantastic Planet (ah, all those wonderful '50's electronic sound effects and the eerie sound of the Theramin); Predator is a good'un too as is of course the wonderfully stirring theme to Independence Day.

I do hope you've ripped them to your HD, they are a rare treasure, although they can still be bought on Amazon along with the first in the series.
