What a difference a week makes ! ... Since then I have figured out how to add libraries to the alpha release of Plex (music go to Music Plug-ins; videos got to Video Plug-ins) use the context menu (Press C) My liking of Plex has now reached the next level since I discovered a way to save YouTube videos. Now I can save these into playlists on my hard drive and have Plex reference the playlists via the Video Plug-in option This means I can access my favourite music videos from Plex ... without logging into YouTube and without the annoying pauses while the wireless connection tries to keep up. The Alpha release of Plex gets a round of applause from me ... I still think it would have been more elegant to add music files to the Music option (rather than the new Music Plug-in option) and likewise for Videos ... but this is a minor gripe which doesn't interfere with the enjoyment of using this media centre - esp. with the Remote HD iPhone App.
Ok, I have just downloaded the latest version of Plex, and they have changed things (in my view) not for the better. Boxee did the same thing so this is getting a bit tedious ... Now it looks like you can only select music from iTunes! It doesn't look in your Music folder by default, and there may be an option to add music libraries to your search path. It is probably buried in some contextual menu deep in the bowels of the application somewhere ... but, for the life of me, I can't find it ... This will be a real pity because if it can only play iTunes, then it is nothing more than another Front Row ... albeit with a slightly prettier skin. I am really gutted by this turn of events ... if anyone has figured out how to add music libraries with the recent version of Plex ... please put me out of my misery ...
