I'm interested to hear how you get on with this John, although I don't think what you hear is going to be a total surprise as you seem to have been getting regular doses of what's in store at Vic & Clive's systems.
Just out of interest, what's the turn-around time from order to delivery on one of these?

Very nice, John. What cartridge & phono stage are you running?

John
26-02-2011, 06:33
Well the Cartridge is a London Super gold and phonostage is a modified EAR which Vic has kindly lent me, until I can afford the Nighthawk
This is the first production model so I am not sure what the real turn around time will be, but you buying a bespoke TT so either it night take just a few weeks or a lot longer
I only heard it for a very short time and first very early intial impression is the Transiant attack and its going to be hard listening to my digital based system

John that looks the business and the platter looks like it spin for ever with all of that mass. We will have to catch up on how its going at or on the way back from Scalford.

I am on leave on the Monday after Scalford if you fancy arranging a session for the London crowd.

Now go and take some more pictures for us all.

Lets chat about that on the way back
The mass really helps but the torque from the motor really is the key here to overcoming the effects of stylus drag and giving a rock solid platform

John, this TT was always going to suit you! The mods towards the end of development took Salvation from being a very, very good TT at an incredible price to a totally amazing TT at the same incredible price. I look forward to your further observations but in the meantime......ENJOY.

Yes agree Clive and at the moment its about just sinking into the music

When your ears are accustomed to the sound you may want to look at tweaking the input impedance of the EAR. With the Reference and Jubilee 33k loading and even down towards 18k works better than 47k - the Super Gold has the same internals and stylus as the Jubilee.

Hi Clive,

I'm also using this cartridge with a modified EAR834P.
Very curious as to what changes in sound one might expect with the reduced load.

Thanks for the detailed review/write up on the Salvation/Terminator.
Very informative.

Hi Doak,

Reducing the load will drop the treble a little and add weight & solidity to the bass. 33k is what London recommend as ideal and when you look at the theory 33k is about right. It's not a huge difference but I prefer these lower impedances. It should be quite easy to try, you either replace the resistor across the input (I've not looked inside the EAR) or find somewhere to add a 110k in paraelle (47k // with 110k = 33k), could be in the phono plugs for a quick test.

Cheers,

Clive

Hi John

That looks a great set up; a big one on the wish list from me when (when?) we move house. What mat, if any , are you suing and is it easy to arrneg the arms for the extra clearance needed?

John
01-03-2011, 16:30
Clive will be better to answer the Question around mat, it comes with the turntable to my understanding this was developed over time. It possible to adjust height, the arm has a lot of different adjustments so is quite flexiable

Clive

There's a serious amount of VTA adjustment available with the arm but if this doesn't accommodate a particular arm/mat arrangement then all you'd need would be a customer arm pillar. Vic can make these any size. The standard Salvation mat is a 3mm acrylic type.

You should tell the designer of that turntable, that he got the spelling wrong. :eyebrows:

That's not how one spells Salivation........ ;)

It's probably a more apt name. :)
