anothe audiophile newbie on art of sound!

Hallo everyone! I'm in my mid-40's and my audiophile history goes back to the mid-1990's. At time invested in an all-Roksan system (Xerxes,Artemiz,Shiraz turntable/Caspian cd and amp/Ojan speakers). Fundamentally ok, but long term dry and uninvolving sound. Then in 2000 listened to ProAc Futures 2 speakers at a show and was bowled over. Through John Jefferies at Sounds Of Music built new system around these (Michell Orbe,SME V,Transfiguration Temper Supreme, later Orpheus,Tom Evans phono /Marantz SA1 cd/Advantage amp). After decade of further change have settled on Orbe with Gert Pederson plinth upgrade, Origin Live Ultra Motor upgrade, SME V silver wire internal upgrade, Orpheus to Zu modified Denon 103R, Tom Evan Groove upgraded to Groove Plus SRX, SA1 upgraded to EMM Labs CDSA SE, Hovland HP200/Radia amps, and Zu Definitions Mark 2, plus various stands/cables upgrades, esp Burmester 959 Mains conditioner.
I'm pretty pleased with the sound, but am very intrigued by idler drive/rim drive/DD turntables, and am looking for a final TT upgrade (poss. Lenco L75 or Garrard 301 in a slate plinth, Vic's Trans Fi Salvation/T3 Pro, or Brinkmann

The Orbe you have is a fine example of vinyl art and a Garrard or Lenco will only add noise IMO, despite looking so cool in a new fancy plinth.

My recommendation is to look at a NAS Dias as your final upgrade, and transfer the SME over to this. HiFi Dave (just round the M25 and up the M11 ;)) did this very comparison not long ago and rated the Orbe highly, but found the Dias to have that certain "solidity" that Lenco and Garrard lovers love so much - belt drive and all. The platter of the Dias is so heavy it's pretty well immune to the drive system in any case I think.

I heard the Brinkmann LaGrange its a nice TT but I perfer the Salvation I heard Howards (Stereonow) old LaGrange a good few times
I used to have an Orbe with SME4 many years back and also a VPI superscoutmaster with rim drive Howard was blown away by it but I still perfer the Salavation

With my devotion to all things analog, incl. film cameras-I hate to say it, but no digital slr yet, I may be a little slow getting around to posting photos of the system. I'm sure I can rely at some stage on a digital whizz kid to do this in their sleep.

Just wanted to say what a friendly bunch are on this forum board, John has already volunteered to let me here his new Trans Fi Salvation. Is there any interest amongst members to hold informal get togethers, so we can see/hear whst were all spending our hard earned cash on!

Nice selection there and as a fellow newbie myself, I can concur this is a very friendly and welcoming forum and the wealth and depth of knowledge is humbling - I have learnt masses in my short time here (and spent a few bob - so watch out for that!) :)

Spocks Beard too . . . and I see Marillion . . . I don't suppose you are going to next months Marillion Convention? If you are I will buy you a beer :cool:
