Well I only stumbled across this forum while trying to find the import duty on a reel to reel deck...

12% surely they're 'avin' a giraffe

Anyway - this looks a good place to be :)

So - electrokid = electronics is my raison d'ętre and kid is my mental age :) my real age being somewhat more disturbing. And it's also my ID on BXClub.co.uk and with a '46' added at the end it's my ID on allaboutcircuits and eBay - I do like to be consistent - and I don't like remembering loads of different IDs and passwords :)

My hifi was dismantled prior to moving house and it's taken me a couple of years to get to where I am now - soon to get sound back in my life again - to be fair, the audio gear will be integrated with a much larger project which is why it's taken so long.

So I'll look forward to being educated - might have some pearls of my own - we'll see :)

Welcome to AoS Brian. So what kit you got then? (Picture, please, in the Gallery? We're all voyeurs on here!) and what sort of music do you like spinning/streaming/whirring on it?

I'm sure you'll enjoy your time here, we're a friendly bunch most of the time. Have fun!

Hi Brian :)

(Always disturbs me the way Alex refers to joining this forum as enjoying your “time” here :eyebrows: )

I'd never thought of it like that! If you'd ever wondered what happened to all those new joiners who only managed a couple of dozen posts... "A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti."

Thanks for the welcomes :)

secondly 12% from where?

I don't think is was on theartofsound - several reel to reel machines were quoted as attracting 12% on the customs website. I was chatting with the guy selling this - which is now re-listed...

I've got masses of kit - some of it is decent - most of it old. I was looking at the Crown 700 partly as spares for my Crown 800 quad. Main deck is a Japanese direct drive - DRS3 or something like that - with an SME 3009 Se2 and a JVC 4MD10X cartridge. Links to pics will arrive eventually - honest :) I used to have an 'AV rack' in the old house and I've had to rebuild completely for this house and now includes all my electronics test kit (or at least will do in a few weeks time). I've reached the stage where the woodwork is nearly complete - it's 3m long, 600mm deep and floor to ceiling high. There's a space to walk between that and the test bench - also 3m long - I'm nearly at the stage of actually putting some wiring in !
