RCA Ends touching?

Hi all, just a quick question, my friend lent me a Cambridge Audio Pacific RCA interconnect to use until i get some new ones, i plugged my CD player into my amp with them and noticed the barrels at the end touch each other ever so slightly, system still works etc as i think the outer shell is ground only on the RCS's, my question is will it hurt anything to leave it like this?

Note there is no other RCA cables plugged in next to the CD player cables, its just the left/right touching.

It's nothing to worry about. You're just joining left and right signal ground together. This usually happens inside the amp or at some other point in the signal path anyway. The purists would maybe say that you're creating eddy currents or something that may degrade the sound but I don't think that's something worth worrying about in this scenario. :)

EDIT: In the worst case it could create a ground loop that would cause a hum through your speakers. So in that case you could slide a thin bit of paper or plastic between the two but I doubt you'll have a problem.

Thanks Dave, iv since messed around at the back and been able to get a 1mm gap between the 2 RCA ends, so should not be a problem now,the top RCA cable was up against the back wall and forcing the plugs to touch, a wiggle of the wires and a twist of the plug sorted it.

Hi Jon, i was going to go for the Belkin Pure AV but i only want a 0.5m length so decided to go for the QED Performance Audio 2 (http://www.qed.co.uk/97/gb/product/performance/audio_2.htm) cable, seems like a good cable and my local shop do them so should be able to get a discount as i know them quite well.
