View Full Version : MAD together 2011? Crazy feast again!!!
Hi Guys,
Long time no see! Recently developing something new....
Anyone would interested to get together? Perhaps sometime in April?
Hi Tim, I posted a few weeks ago that we hadn't heard from you in months - hope business is good and you are well - didn't make the previous events, but I would be interested in the next one, diary permitting.

Hi Tim
Nice to see you back

Yes, welcome back Tim - we've missed you.
What have you got for us this time? Anytime in April is good for me, so I ought to be able to make your latest MAD-fest. (It will give me a good opportunity to return the mains lead you loaned me. That was about a year ago!)
For those of you who haven't been to one of Tim's events, I can confirm that not only will you hear some interesting kit, but you will also enjoy some excellent Chinese food. What more could you want?
Regards
Hi Tim,
Good to see you popping in again - trust you're well and have been busy making millions? :)
Marco.

By the way, how much is a mint condition SCD-777es worth? You must be the best person to ask.

I paid £800 for a slightly marked one. I do know they can go for more though if mint with box etc. However if the laser goes its a scrapper as they can't be got anymore. Nice mechanism very silent in playback, nice transport if used with a Dac but imho sound wise overrated (using its analogue outputs) unless modified. The Scd1 is a tad better if used via its balanced outputs but again it needs breathed on to give of its best. Audiocom would work wonders on either machine.
SACD playback is very good on both machines by the way.

Lol - good to see you back. Hope they served some nice Szechuan marinated capacitors and steamed spicy crossovers with Udon noodles in the loony bin...!
Regarding your Sony query, at a guess, somewhere between £1.5-1.8k on Ebay, if it's mint and boxed as new. However, the best person to ask would be Mark Bartlett from Audiocom, as he knows the Sony vintage CDP scene better than most.
You can PM him here under the username 'Audiocom'

Surely you are joking, its not worth that kind of money not even close. Most I know of a SCD 777 going for was I think about £1359 last time I looked (that was over a year ago). Now SCD1s go for much more.
Imho neither machine are worth that kind of money, I used to own an Sony Scd777 and got rid of it, not worth keeping.

The only Sony CDP I have any extensive experience with, Neil, is my X-777ES, which is superb, so I can't comment on any of Sony's SACD players. I'm simply going on the fact that it's mint and quite desirable to certain vintage enthusiasts.
In any case, I'm not a big fan of SACD (finding it rather too 'hi-fi sounding' for my tastes), preferring instead basic Red Book CD, done well, with a modified TDA1541-based DAC.
The reality I guess is that an SCD-777ES could go for anything between £800 to just under £2k on Ebay, depending on who's bidding on the day. Who'd have thought a pair of Celestion Ditton Monitor 66s would go recently for £1320? There are people who when they want something will pay whatever it takes..... ;)
However, if JJ wants a realistic ball-park figure for his SCD-777ES, I'd say approx £1300, which will allow some haggling from any prospective buyer :)
Marco.
How about the second Saturday of April?:eyebrows: Everyone bring their toy along?
