Hi guys, been asked to intro myself so here goes......

Been into music since the late 60's and my first gig was in 1974 (Emerson, Lake and Palmer - Empire Pool) but the obsession started with Pink Floyd's DSOTM. Still my top album, but I struggle to name favourites now, as there are so many. I enjoy pretty much all genre's apart from Rap and Hip Hop, with prog rock being up there near the top, but anything goes really. I also love classical and going to gigs is another indulgence, in fact most of my music expenditure goes on live performances and CD's. I could do with upgrading my equipment, but cannot do both! I found the forum whilst researching for a DAC and have just bought a Beresford Caiman.

I work in IT, but after reading the flame throwing O/S thread with Scratchy, I don't think I will go there...... I used to frequent forums a lot, but stayed away due to those type of angry posts.

Anyway, hi guys, great forum and I hope to offer up some words of wisdom now and again, but mostly will enjoy reading what you guys have to say.

Hi Tim, welcome to AoS - hope you'll enjoy it here. The O/S thread is very much the exception to the rule here - we tend to be a friendly and civilised bunch (mostly :lol:), so don't let it put you off :)

Life's far too short to worry about what O/S is the best! If it works it's fine for whoever uses it..... :)

Hi Tim, and welcome aboard. Plenty of similar people with regards your music taste, and you've certainly come to the right place regards the Caiman as plenty of owners here too.

We're normally a very friendly bunch on here - I'd ignore the thread you referenced, not a fair representation (probably one of the strongest posts I've ever made in over 5,000, but very rare it gets that heated on this forum) - looks like you are already getting stuck in, so look forward to more of your posts. Oh, and I'm an IT bod too - seems to be quite a few of us geeks into hifi, is there a connection? Boys and their gadgets, probably!

I too was/am a Floyd fan but I was just a little young for a 1974 gig. I think my first was Rick Wakeman in about 1975 and I saw Floyd at Knebworth (1976?).

You'll love the Caiman, it's an excellent DAC and very upgradeable.

I don't play them much at the mo, in fact I find it hard keeping up with all the CD's I buy, having gone a bit mad lately! I did get the chance to see them at the High Voltage festival last year. What a grin that was, just like a 70's ELP gig - lots of fun :)

Ah my cut off point is 'Brain Salad Surgery' for listerning, although i did see then on the 'Black Moon' tour :)

Me too, didn't buy anything after BSS. I still think the first album is the best, Lucky Man is timeless.
