Hello everyone,

Browsed the forum a few times, but have decided to take the plunge, register and bare all!

My hifi journey started when I went off to college in 1990 (yes, I'm a relative young 'un - 40 this year). I picked up a second-hand Marantz PM55 and a pair of Sony bookshelf speakers with square woofers - I forget the model. At the front was a Dual CS-505 TT.

The TT eventually went into the garage when the stylus needed replacing and £20 for a new ortofon was a lot of money. I bought a Sony CDP (the first model in the then new range with the AMS navigation system) in the mid 1990s I think.

This system lasted for about eight years. The amp blew up and the laser went on the CDP. I got the entry Marantz gear (CD5001/PM4001) and some Mission M31i speakers in about 2003. My wife bought me a Project Debut III for Christmas which I loved.

I then got the Marantz CD6002 / PM7001 and a pair of Monitor Audio BR5s. This lastest about 3 months! I then bought (when drunk) off eBay a couple of Cyrus 6 Powers and a PreVS2. This started a rapid race through the Cyrus range trying to achieve a sound Cyrus does not provide (oh well, we all have to learn what we like somehow). This culminated in the a CDXt / DACXP / Mono X into Totem Acoustic Sttaf speakers.

I then heard some Audio Note gear at a hifi show in 2009 and was smitten. The Cyrus gear got sold over the period of a few months during which I hunted out Audio Note equipment.

My current system is all Audio Note, as follows:

Analogue: TT-Two / Arm Three / IQ3 (this has the silver AN-Vx cabling)
Digital: CDT2 / DAC2.1x Signature connected together with an AN-LEXUS digital interconnect and AN-LEXUS RCA to the amp
Amp: OTO Phono SE connected to the 'speakers with AN-La
Speakers: AN-E/Spe

I am, right now, listening to the Decemberists' Hazards of Love on vinyl and loving every minute of it. Although my musical tastes are quite eclectic. I am afraid to say I am not a fan of prog rock, but thats about it (I think thats a generation thing).

Anyway, thats me.

All the best.
Phil

Yes, Welcome to AoS Phil.

Don't worry about not liking prog rock. It's not a necessary condition of membership!

Enjoy the forum

Hi Phil, welcome to AoS.

Don't you just love an ebay & alcohol combo? I once woke up to find I had bid £12k (I didn't have) on a 1969 Ford Mustang, and was shortly going to be the new owner - luckily the seller pulled the auction, and I didn't have to explain to (or sell) the wife!

Nice looking kit - you need more records though ;) - that's where we come in - if you don't want any more bad influences in your life I'd do a runner now!

Enjoy your time here, and have fun!

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Well the pics are out of date already. Spent Sunday evening moving it all into a bigger room, more suited to the AN-E/Spe's size and output. Will post some more pics in The Gallery soon.

More records? Definitely - I look forward to reading recommendations on / making purchases via here.

Welcome to the site mate.

Hazards of love is pretty "proggy" isnt it? Its certainly a concept album anyway. Maybe you do actually like prog you just dont realise it!

Maybe it is, in which case I do. I guess I was referring to 70s prog rock, for example Emerson, Lake and Palmer was never my thing.

Terribly. The room is too small (at just shy of 11' x 10') and the eaves make the problem worse. I got bad standing waves in the bass and if the volume was up, it was like driving down the motorway with one window open in terms of air pressure - they move large amounts of air those speakers.

So I've moved the system back downstairs to a larger room 16.5' x 14', which is better suited. I just need to get more soft furnishings in there now.
