I think most of us have got rid of kit over the years and then after a few weeks of listening miss the old stuff, for me this was rose tinted specs syndrome as I got rid of an old philips cdi player and bought marantz cd63se then after a few weeks started thinking cdi was better till I heard it several months later again, what experiences have you had with this.

I enjoy changing gear .... for me different can be as much fun as better.

The only component I might wish to re-visit is an Opera Consonance 300B-based integrated valve amp .... remote control, too :) .... but it couldn't really drive the Thiel speakers I had then (a seriously nasty load) so I sold the amp. I reckon that should have been a keeper, as it sounded gorgeous and would work well on most speakers. The Thiels are now long-gone, and my current speakers would just love that old Consonance .... :(

Grundig valve 19cm/s, 3 head reel-to-reel tape deck ( ca. 1965 model )

Not as posh as a Revox but highly regarded at the time; needed regular servicing

No hifi regrets, but I bitterly regret selling my vinyl copy of 'Nuggets'.

Roksan Xerxes / SME IV / AT OC9 Anniversary. Not for the Roksan, which was poorly made and was no longer supported (shame on you, Roksan), but for the SME which was a stunning piece of engineering and which sounded wonderful.

Also my previous Michell Syncro. Gorgeous.

My first reel to reel, a late 60's Grundig I picked up for a fiver at a jumble sale aged 14. It worked really well and I had some great fun with it. I think I sold it for a fiver to someone a few years later. I just can't imagine why... except maybe it was a bit too retro for a 17 year old's bedroom... jeez. The folly of youth.

And my first VCR... a Phillips V2000 that lasted me 5 years into my second year at University. It seized up in the end and got binned. If it were now I'd have got it fixed and carried on using it. Back then though zero money. Bah.

Like this one you mean?

It didn't sell so they could be up for offers in Italian. Although for the same price went a pair of Opera Reference 9.9 monoblocks in Australia..

A nice long list from Howard. Some of that list would make it onto my "Wish I'd bid more for on Ebay" list which is extensive.

I have to say that for me, with so much to discover out there, even if I do regret selling something I have to keep in mind that the money funded something else I wanted and I know another will turn up again eventually. Just try never to get gear lust when buying and end up paying too much.. and stick to second hand.

I did regret 'upgrading' from a DNM 3 Six preamp to a 3B Primus - the power supplies make all the difference! - but I've spotted another at a good price and so will revisit it soon at no financial loss.

STAX SR-14s preamp. Disposal was a moment of utter utter stupidity on my part.

Could have kept hold of mint condition Mark Levinson 230v ML6a 2 x mono preamps. Declined 'cos like a fool I thought they had too few inputs.

Finally, a unique edition of the Meridian M1s with a Coles HF-2000 tweeter to augment the other 3 drivers and with two additional Meridian power supplies per channel. I sold 'em on. Oh what a fool!
