Supreme Dalek said I should introduce myself, not jump straight in with an advert for my Teac TI Transport and Pink Triangle Ordinal with 18 bit Yamaha filter. And who am I to argue?
OK, began putting together a sound system in 1975. Leak stereo 70 amp., Pioneer PL12D turntable and a pair of speakers bought secondhand from a mate's brother that sounded better (more natural) than a £250 pair of KEFs. Within a year I'd added a Pioneer cassette deck.
Upgraded to a pair of Audiomaster LS3 5As. Next, an Arcam A60 amp. That set-up last a while. Then in 1984 (or thereabouts) I bought the Marantz 65SE CD player. Next a Sony 555ES CD player.
In 1992 I heard the ATC SCM 50As and knew what I'd eventually have. In the meantime, I settled for a pair of ATC SCM20s and AVI pre/monoblocs (150 watts). Several years went by in which I became an AVI/ATC dealer. Lost a shed load of money and got out.
In 1999 my mother died and I spent part of the inheritance on an ATC SC2 preamp and SCM 50ASL active speakers.
In 2010 I sold the preamp and speakers to pay for professional grade photographic equipment and turned freelance. Which left me with a Pink Triangle DAC and Teac T1 transport and Senheisser remote headphones.
Now I've bought an Onkyo midi system and am selling a Teac T1 transport and Pink Triangle DAC, oh have I already mentioned that.
Music wise I was lucky enough to have two older sisters who won junior exhibitioner scholarships to the Royal Academy of Music, so I was brought up listening to them practice Mozart, Brahms, Beethoven, Saint-Saens and Strauss on the piano, violin, french horn and flute.
In the 60's Radio Caroline, Radio 1 and Luxembourg came along and my grandma bought me a tranny.
Later in life I got into jazz.
My guiding principle is that there's good music in all genres, but some genres I just don't have the ability to appreciate, yet. Doesn't mean to say there isn't merit in them.
