Does anyone know if tape tension guages are available with digital readouts (0-3000grm)?

Errrrrm, as I seem to recall there isn't really an overlap of technologies there between tape and digital instruments Andre :eyebrows:

I have found one ebay seller who says he has a spring tape tension gauge that goes up to 3000gm, although the main listing is for a 1000gm one

There are still a good few mechanical tension gauges around for tape machines, but the machines themselves began being phased out by the early 80's and digital readouts for anything didn't arrive on the scene until the late 80's if my memory serves me well. In other words methinks there is around a 10 year gap in technologies

By far the best guages are the "Tentelometers" made by the Tentel Corporation as they were - mechanical and very very accurate.

I still use one for setting all my machines and that includes the open reel video machines - in their day these guages retailed for around 8 grand !

Is this of any help?

Be quick!

I sometimes use a Correx gauge to confirm the cartridge tracking force.

OK, how about: http://www.pesola.com/cgi-bin/shop?r0=user&r1=show&r2=item&itemId=177&lang=en_US ?

Not cheap, but accurate and Swiss made.

Looks like i might need two to be accurate. The 2500g (for 1200g-1400g: Pinch Roll Pressure) & The 300g one (for 200g: Tape Tension arms)!

Just a suggestion - if you attach a 200g weight to the end of a piece of quarter inch tape and thread it through the transport and let it 'hang' off the tension arms you can then set up the mechanical and/or electronic positioning and relative cut-offs for them.

This is the method by which tension arms are set on all high-end machines.

Thanks
I dropped on a lab grade guage for £25 that will do the trick, better than the cheap one i had..
