Hi all..

Has anyone upgraded from Stirlings Black Mamba speaker cable?

So far VDH The Wind and Abbey Road's Reference have been on my list to try.

My system is valve and I was wondering if anyone had any other recomendations? Just got some new speakers too, Harbeth Super HL5's.

Cheers

Shame you just missed a pair for sale on here today (http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?t=9769)... :( - might be worth putting your name down as "first reserve" if the sale should fall through.

I'm now using some of this-

I've found it better than the Mambas, DNM and NVA stuff I have tried in the past.

Yeah. I've asked the guy who bought it to tell me what he thinks to it.

oooh! - this sounds interesting. I may look in to that. I also have had NVA LS5 in the past, found the Black Mamba better in dynamics.

This stuff is a direct descendant of Zebedee....springy as hell...I couldnt get it to lie flat no matter what I tried. Gave up in the end.

Yes, it is very springy, and comes coiled up in a box. If you take it out and run it along the edge of a door handle under tension on the outward facing side of the coil, it will lie nice and flat.

I was really surprised at how good this stuff is,especially for the money.

Cool.. it does look like NAC A5 though... Wonder if it's simular but white!? - must admit, I didn't like NAC A5 at all...

I have the Black Mambas and when I changed amps to the XTZ Desire it sounded a tad too warm with that amp, so I bought some Arrow speaker cable off ebay and that goes really well with the XTZ. Tight clean bass with a nice midrange and top end, only £12.00 or whatever it was for a 2 metre pair.

I don't think the seller has any listed at the moment, but it comes in fits and starts.

Sorry, no idea, never tried any Naim cable. What I did find was it seemed to open up both frequency extremes, and soundstaging and imaging improved too. These things are very system dependent of course, but given the very cheap price, got to be worth a punt surely?

As you say Ali, it’s got to be worth a punt and I might just do exactly that given I’m having a bit of a listening crisis with my custom cables
