Nordost Magus power cord ($150.00)

Another discounted product at my local dealer is Nordost Wyrewizard Magus power cord. Anyone tried this one, and is it worth the asking $150.00?

Due to their imminent moving and the substantial discounts they're cutting, they're not offering demos at this time. The only thing they could offer is, if I don't like the cord I've purchased it, they can exchange it for something else, and then charge me the difference.

I'm not interested in that.

It won't give you a MASSIVE improvement in sound Alex unless you are using a cheap thin power cord already, in which case you will get some improvement in the bass definition and a big more "airiness" to your sound. Plus of course some components are pretty much immune from power cord swapping around, for example switch mode power supplies.

My Belkin PureAV PF30 power conditioner comes with a non-detachable power cord. I was hoping that I could fit it with the Nordost Magus power cord. Would that be doable?

OK, so I finally went out and bought this power cable. You were right -- no MASSIVE improvements in sight. Still, so far I'm pleased with the change, I'd say it was worth $150.00. Here is my casual impressions:

I was expecting much more audible improvements (especially after being blown away by the Nordost speaker cables). Still, the system does sound different with the Magus power cable on. Immediate reaction -- firmer, deeper, more muscular bass, with intensely stronger gravitational pull (the bass now definitely plumbs deeper depths). Second impression -- silkier highs. What used to have a slight grating edge to my ears now passes with flying colors. The all-too-familiar trouble spots accompanied by those unwanted cringe moments are now nicely ironed out and sanded off. Nothing dramatic, but a very welcome change.

Depending on the source material (i.e. type of music I was playing), I started noticing that Magus introduces more POWER. What I mean by that is that on certain very busy passages the sound very nicely bunches up with what feels like triple power. And all that with impressive nonchalance. The dynamic range is definitely improved.

Doing sighted A/B tests reveals that Magus delivers substantially more kick and punch. More ooomph, if you will. Overall, the presentation feels more muscular, while at the same time staying intensely settled, and, if this even makes sense, intensely relaxed (wtf?)

Was I able to hear the removal of yet another veil? Hmmm, maybe. I was able to hear certain minuscule details that are not present with the old power cable on, but these are really minuscule (very quiet, barely audible scratches on guitar strings, percussion, slightly more prominent in-breaths from the vocalists, etc.) Small in quantity and magnitude, but oh so satisfying).

One thing I wasn't able to experience with Magus is the much touted and much promised 'blacker blacks' (what the hell does that mean, anyway?)

It means less hiss/mush through the speakers so the musical content is heard more clearly without that "mist" shrouding it :eyebrows:

Glad you got your $150 worth. Which item are you using it on? Amp presumably.
I've never been a mains lead fan, the supplied ones seem beefy enough.

I'm using it on the power amp. Sales rep recommended that I use it on the power conditioner, because he said that way all my components would benefit. But my Belkin PF30 conditioner doesn't come with a detachable power cable.

I had some friends over for the weekend who did like the change this power cable introduced into my system -- it definitely gives more torque to the louder passages of music, as well as smoothes out some overly sparkling highs on certain tracks. Overall, there is less graininess and less glare now.
