Hi Guys

Well I just couldn't resist.
As you can see I have bought a Jean Francois Le Tallec Stasis TT.
Looks great in the Gloss Black too.
I came with the Tonearms shown which is an SME 3009 S2 and a Unipivot by Excel Sound Corporation their ES-1000. Cartridge by Clear Audio Sigma.
It's a pretty substantial TT being lined with Lead and Concrete.
I've been wanting something to play with and never really fancied toying with the Feickert.
Have been wanting to get the Lenco out and running again too.
So the end result is a change around of gear and I managed to get it all assessable to use.

This is just a quick post will get round to my thoughts when I am happy with the setup. I have never been too sure of the Clear Audio cartridges but have a Dynavector DV20x I can drop in place if need be.
I have been having a few thoughts about things, I will be replacing the mains. The rest I will leave until I have lived with the TT a bit and thought out what I would like to do.

Anyway I love it, and gives me something to play with and enjoy.

Mark, I do realise I am very lucky, as you can guess I am single at the mo.
Who the bloody hell would put up with that lot in the living room.

Juha, The TT is sat on a Granite Plinth that weighs in at 90Kg. I have found it works extremely well under any of my TT's.
It was bought off Fleebay as a Engineers Surface Table.
Well worth the £80 it cost.

Dave, I haven't set or checked the SME out yet. I have never had a SME 309 S2 before. I like you have heard conflicting views on them. So I'm not sure what I will find when it is put on, will let you know.
If anything it is the SME that my be sacrifised for something else.
I have my thoughts but will wait and see how things pan out.
Will keep you updated.

Regarding the sound and performance of the SME 3009 II Improved...whoever said it was a poor performer should stick to digital. :mental:

I have owned that very arm a few times over the years, the last was a fully decked out II Improved with bronze bush etc. Paired with an Ortofon 2M Black, well, it was fabulous. :eek:

The 3009 is near to famous for folks looking to get the most out of the Shure V15, and honestly, any MM or MI cart sounds great on a 3009.

Folks that have not realized great performance from this arm have definitely not invested in proper set up.

Enjoy that arm, and seek out the upgrades available for it, you will enjoy.

Goodness that's a lovely looking deck and I just love the granite measuring block it's on.

Your SME arm is one of the later 'Improved' models that used hard plastic knife edges. Get them replaced with the original metal ones and the SME will sound even better. They crop up on ebay from time to time.

I don't have direct experience of more than a handful of different tonearms, but I do have a 3009 S2 Improved on my Garrard (and will be trying on my SL-150 when I can get round to it) and whoever the "someone" who told you it is "not good" David is I fear generalising - may not have been "good" in the particular application he was using it, but these arms are legendary at their price point, and the build and engineering quality puts just about anything else to shame. They may not be the best arm in the world, but they are certainly not crap!)

Hi Guys

A quick update on the JFLT Stasis.

Well what a surprise, never quite sure what I was going to get, especially as it was bought to satisfy my need to play with something.

The ES-1000 Unipvot took a bit of setting up, but once it was done it has proven to be a great tonearm. very well engineered and a great sounding arm. Tracks well, nice easy Azimuth adjustment and by comparison an accurate tracking weight adjuster. My only slight critism would be of the Head Shell. It has a screw to secure it to the Arm Wand, it doesn't move but never feels totally secure.

Sound wise with the Clear Audio Sigma is very good indeed. It doesn't seem to impose a sound of it's own onto the music. Just great tight bass and open and detailed mids and highs. Very even handed and just how I like it.
I believe it is a 80's era arm. A very clean ecample is great condition.
I don't think it has seen much use, until now that is.

The SME 3009 a very nice clean example of this tonearm. Not impressed with the cartridge sounds a bit flat and spitty. I have the chance to get hold of an SME VI, so the chances are this one will be moved on, I don't think the cartridge is doing the SME any favours, so I might just drop the Dynavector I have, on to the arm and see what happens there.

The TT itself is a nice solidly engineered unit. Lead and Concrete lined motor drive case. The Arm Board pods are isolated from the main section by what looks like 5mm high density Felt. The internals of the Arm Board Pods are lined with the same felt.

The Platter is a stack of 3 Glass Platters separated with the same felt used elsewhere on the TT. These sit on a machined Platter support and is an intergral part of the Teflon lined bearing. Topped off with a Cork and Rubber mat. This gives me some options to try other varieties of mat. I have a Sound Dead Steel and Acromat to play with too.
The speed control of the TT is excellent too, so it looks good the motor and belt are in good fettle

So all round very pleased, will have many happy hours of playing to look forward to.

Will let you know what happens with the SME VI but I think the 3009 will be up for sale.
