Found this in the loft ... Is it one of those things that can help with vinyl and static somehow?

If so, what do I do with it?

Just fire it at the record...or anyone wearing nylon underwear ;)

Ive read different instructions by the same manufacturer ( milty i think )
When i used one i would hold it 6 inches from the record and slowly squeeze it several times. I would use a packing peanut as a before and after test to see if it stuck to the record. Or you can hold the lp to your face to sense the static and then check again after using it. :)

Use it on CDs too - you may find that the sound improves quite significantly;) Don't squeeze the trigger too quickly - if it makes clicking noises you need to be more gentle. Just hold about 30cm from the record, squeeze gently, then release the trigger while holding the gun in the same place. That's it.

A very useful audio gadget to have around.

Cheers!

Do they fail over time? It seems to work - I get a shock from it if I touch the end ... But not much of one and I have to pump it a quite a few times to get a spark off the end....

Do they have a traditional use ... What would my gran have had it for?

Hi Hammish

Hugo is right but i'd like to add something in case you are not sure what you're doing.
Hold it about 30 cm from the record surface, squeeze the triger at normal speed,as Hugo said, but release the trigger very slowly, otherwise you'll end up having more static than before on your lp.

Although I'm told by a family friend they are more likely related to my adopted mom (her daughter) who apparently worked for the ministry of intelligence ...

If only inanimate objects could tell you thier story!

Indeed, Hamish - and the thing we always forget about old people is that they were young once...
