Wanted Tesla E83CC

I am about to enter new level of vinyl nirvana because Nick G has nearly finished my new phono stage.

I am now after NOS Tesla E83CC valves, anything from one to four valves would do to start with.

Hi Juha,

Those are superb valves - I use them in my Croft preamp (amongst others). Problem is, they're pretty rare and not cheap!

Last I heard, he'd sold out, but that was over a year ago, so if you email him he might have had more in, or know of where some are available.

Out of curiosity, who came up with the idea of using the Teslas - Nick or you? :)

IMO they're about the best ECC83 you can buy! :cool:

I was expecting your reply :lol: because I remember you writing that these are the best ECC83 variants available, after eye watering Telefunken ECC803S. I have done a lot of "google time" and have come to the same conclusion, Frame grid Tesla E83CC are the way to go. I have managed to buy two of these ever rarer getting valves now. One was NOS and other one used, so I am really looking at least one more NOS to get a nice pair for the phono stage.

When I ordered valves for Nick some time ago now, I did not know better and went for new production TungSol ECC803-S, which Nick actually has found to be very quiet and nice sounding :).

Good luck in finding more Teslas - they're lovely sounding valves.

No doubt your phono stage will be superb. Nick's bringing an example of it to my place to hear in the next couple of weeks :cool:

Yes, I've tried those Tung-Sols - they're very good for new production valves, but not a patch on the Teslas ;)
