Hi from France!

Hi! I've been an audio enthusiast for many years, and I hope it will last for long! I live in France, near Lyon (in northen Ardeche region actually).

I enjoy listening to every kind of music, but my preference goes for vocal jazz / latin jazz (especially live recordings).

My current system is :

- a squeezebox touch streaming 24/96 pcm fed by a squeezeboxserver running under linux (all my files are 16/44 flacs)
- a modded Beresford caiman+ (elna + murata regs + passive output + burson audio discrete opamp (with proper power supply) for headphones output + upgraded signal path caps)
- an advance acoustics mpp 206 preamp (to be modded)
- a modded yaqin cd3 tube buffer, with Shuguang Treasure 6SN7 tubes
- an advance acoustics maa 406 amp (to be modded)
- a pair of modded elipson prestige 4 (modified damping + cables + reworked external crossovers)
- and akg K701 heaphones (I will probalbly mod them one day - I think I will not resist).

I listen to loudpseakers using ampiophonics (I use a convolver called brutefir to apply drc / bass eq and choueiri crosstalk before sending data to the beresford) - and will never come back to standard stereo.

I listen to k701 headphones using hrtf (using the same convolver and hrtf impulse responses found on the LISTEN HRTF DATABASE), as I hate having the sound in my head.

Welcome to AoS Anthony.

Interesting set up you use. I think you might have started a potentially interesting discussion/debate on the merits or otherwise of 'ambisonic' listening via speakers. There was a lot of interest shown in Ambisonics in this country in the mid '70s, about the same time as the short-lived interest in Quadrophonic reproduction; but little came of it.

Ambiophionic is not to be confused with ambisonics. Ambisonics is series of record and play techniques, while ambiophonics is an other way of reproducing conventionnal recorded stereo (is shifts the traditionnal 60 degree stereo soundstage to a minium 120 degree wide soundstage and improves the position perception of the performers and intruments).

I will enjoy starting a thread about ambiophonics if some are interested in its implementation, pros (a lot), and (few) cons. I hope my english will be fine enough to describe properly what I experience with ambiophonics.
