Hi folks,

I have a Beresford 7520 and have considered hooking it to my dvd player(panasonic) via the coaxial output. Is there a significant difference between using an optical or coaxial input on the 7520?

IME the coax on my Caiman is slightly better, but in my system it wasn't "significant" - certainly not for DVD/Bluray use, quite happy with optical as I have no choice!

SPDIF is a bit of a funny bus.
The data is digital but the sample rate is derived from the rate the bits are pouring in.
If the source has a low quality clock, it will generate tons of input jitter.
DACs can cope with this to a certain extend.
In case of SPDIF the quality of the source might be more important than the receiver.
Toslink in general is a bit higher on jitter than coax but has the benefit of galvanic isolation.
On modern gear even the jitter level of Toslink is very low.
In practive we don’t hear coax or Toslink but the implementation of these on both the sender and the receiver.
Only a listening test can tell you what works best in your system.
