Hi everybody, a brief introduction. I'm a long retired hi-fi dealer with a recently acquired interest in DIY speaker building. I've got quite a few projects on my site along with my recollections of the hi-fi trade from the late '60's to the '80's.

There are some great tales on your website! I reckon at least one member I can think of here knew your Sheffield shop (esp. as you sold Ferrograph).
So what kit are you currently using & what sort of music is your particular cuppa?

Thanks for the intro to Dave Randle. No doubt I'll bump into him in due course ;)

System-wise nothing esoteric, plain old fashioned stereo. A NAD C325BEE and a Denon DM37DAB which I use for the tuner, CD player and USB input. At the moment the NAD is connected to a pair of IPL transmission lines and the Denon to home-made bookshelfs. It gives a pseudo surround sound effect!

As for music, anything that's well recorded and hasn't had the life squeezed out of it by silly amounts of compression!

Hi Steve, welcome to AoS :) That's an interesting looking speaker you have advertised, i have designed & built double chamber reflex enclosures before & each time i have they had 3 ports... I have seen similar on previous occasions though ;)

I'm at a loss as to how that works, i hope you don't mind if i PM you & discuss what i did in relation to your design? :scratch:

I hope the member who knew my Sheffield shop was a satisfied customer! Although I was a Ferrograph dealer, I never sold any tape decks, the Jap invasion and the likes of Sony put paid to that.
One British made tape deck I did manage to sell was the Chilton. Anyone remember that?

Hi Reid, feel free to PM me although I find the workings of these enclosures just as mysterious as you do! All I know is they work well and produce surprising low and clean bass. I think the driver is fooled into thinking it's in a much larger enclosure whilst still retaining a reasonable amount of loading to prevent excessive cone excursion.

I have built 3 different sets & all work as pedicted using Thiele/Small parameters, one was a mono subwoofer - all got sold as they were projects or commissioned jobs to friends on the cheap :doh:

It's good to find someone with experience of DBR enclosures and look forward to learning from your experience. My speakers are continuous 'work in progress' so any tips for improvement are greatly appreciated.
The final design of my DBR's was basically down to trial and error using prototype boxes. If there's a formula or calculator out there for optimising chamber volumes and ports for DBR's I'd like to know about it :)

Hi Steve, i'll get something up in one of the forum sections so you can see exactly what i'm refering to & then i'll point you there ;) It really is quite easy tbh, i think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I assume that what you are attempting to do is damp the driver over a much wider bandwidth than a normal reflex enclosure? If that's the case this is exactly what this does but over two octaves rather than a single chambers one octave :)

Give me a bit of time to sort something out as i'm up to my neck in sorting other stuff out right now :doh:
