I have been privileged to be involved with a group of game mappers for a few years now.
To say I’m stunned by the graphical masterpieces some of these game mappers produce is a vast understatement.
Until a few years ago I had virtually no knowledge of games bar what I had seen of the console style games which I found pretty obnoxious in general; too violent, too warlike or just time wasting repetitive cartoons.
If you do look at the screen shots in the link, bear in mind that what you are looking at was imagined and then constructed by a person and it may have taken months of work to produce.
Also bear in mind that a game map is an animated creation so lights flicker, objects move and as a player you can traverse the map and while doing so the scene you see changes much as if you were walking around a three dimensional world.
Unfortunately much of the beauty is lost in a screen shot; it losses the dynamics and resolution and vibrancy that you get when playing.
I think these maps, UT3 in particular, are art and fantastic art at that.
Think what you will about the game, but the creation of the environment for this game, Unreal Tournament in particular, beggars belief.
The screen shots are best viewed as in large format.
Imagine being able to walk around such a world and then imagine having other real players join you in this world where a match is played, often involving great skill.
Because of the file sizes of these screen shots I have only directly linked to two JPEG shots. The others are BMP.
Yep, she is indeed female and she’s the character I play as :eyebrows:
