Hi All

Just discovered your site not too long ago. I enjoy reading the forum, espcially on the Technics SL-12XX upgrades, and decided to be a member. And so here I am...

Here is my really humble rig. I listen to music via headphone due to limited space and $$$.

On my rig, I have the Cambridge Audio Azur 740C modded by a local hifi modder (The other CDP is a vintage Philips CD482):

Smart move, Ernest - and a very warm welcome to AoS! :)

The Mike New bearing really moves the Techie on to become a genuine high-end T/T, and in fact it should be considered essential for anyone who's serious about achieving this.

I also notice the Oyaide mat. Did you get that locally? What record weight are you using with it?

Your room looks very cosy and inviting, which as far as I'm concerned is absolutely vital for insuring long listening sessions, regardless of how good your actual system is, and yours is very nicely put together.

Anyway, get stuck in and participate in some of the discussions :cool:

The Oyaide mat, I got it locally...paid around USD225 for it. The clamp is an old Audio Tech AT618 clamp, it weighs 600gm. I am waiting for the Oyaide clamp to be in stock again locally, which is sometime next week.

Yes, I like the set up in my room...comfortable and convenient when listening to my music...with my chair in the middle, the rig on my left, and my LP collections stacked up in the shelves on the right.

At some point, you ought to get his Copper Composite Platter, to match the bearing. The Oyaide mat and clamp are undoubtedly superb, but if you really want to launch the performance of your Techie into the superleague, you need that platter... ;)

Bloody hell - they're £225 here!! Does the shop you bought it from have a website or would they take mail order sales from the UK - perhaps you could find out?

USD225 is about £140. If anyone was planning a holiday to Singapore, shoving a few mats inside a suitcase would be an interesting little earner.... :eyebrows:

Yes, I recognise it now. They were very good devices. Nice one on the Oyaide weight - It think you'll find that makes quite a difference. Let us know how much it costs you! ;)

I got the mat when the retailer here was giving a discount; not sure if the shop does mail order... http://www.xaudio.com.sg . I believe the Oyaide clamp is going for around USD250 here.

Yes, Mike did tell me about the platter...will be getting that later when I have the funds. Wallet about thin at the moment :(.

Yes, just enjoy your T/T as it is at the moment. No doubt it sounds excellent - and you know that you've still got the platter upgrade to look forward to later :)

When you do buy it, go for the Copper Composite version with the label recess, as I believe that's the best solution.

I missed the boat on blue vinyl and have the standard black one. I do have a nice white vinyl Go Team one I picked up last week though.

The MN Bearing seems to have the most effect on the overall sound, though the Oyaide clamp (as compared to the old AT clamp I was using) does make a difference.

Happy with the sonic improvements that all the upgrades have brought; meatier sound, better separation, better bass, and smoother highs; I used to get grainy highs on some recordings (eg. "River" in Sarah McLachlan's Wintersong, when she hits the high note in a couple of places in the song), but that is all gone now...in place is a nice clear smooth note. :)

If your happy to import I think HMV have a number of copies or at least the physical stores do. I assume you have the new Radiohead on download, if you don't know it came out a day early.

For TP's usually import from www.burningshed.com.

Yes, read about Radiohead's new album...waiting for local stores to bring it in. So you have the download? What's the verdict?

I do have the official download(suspect un-official are now available) yes which was part of the order for the special edition LP as well. £33 all in which I thought was reasonable as the LP comes on two clear 10' vinyl with lots of art, CD and I suspect other bits.

Burningshed is where I grabbed my Procupine LP and has some tempting Japan at the moment.
