Apparently there is an article in this month's (Feb '11) Q Magazine detailing the top 250 albums from the last 25 years (the lifetime of the magazine) compiled based on reader's favourites. Here's the top 50. Yawn - usual suspects. As an Oasis non-fan I think it is crazy they have 2 in the top 5 but there you go, the public love 'em by and large, with a few like me who don't!

1 OK Computer - Radiohead
2 Nevermind - Nirvana
3 (What's The Story) Morning Glory? - Oasis
4 Definitely Maybe - Oasis
5 Whatever People Say I Am That’s What I’m Not - Arctic Monkeys
6 The Joshua Tree - U2
7 The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
8 The Bends - Radiohead
9 Achtung Baby - U2
10 Black Holes And Revelations - Muse
11 Is This It - The Strokes
12 A Rush of Blood to the Head - Coldplay
13 Parklife - Blur

20 American Idiot - Green Day
21 The Holy Bible - Manic Street Preachers

29 Automatic for the People - R.E.M
30 Loveless - My Bloody Valentine
31 Grace – Jeff Buckley

I've got 37 of the top 50 - anyone got the whole lot?

I've got nine of them.

Stopped buying Q years ago because their worship of U2, Springsteen and worst of all REM was becoming embarrasing. (Actually I quite like Springsteen albeit in small doses).

What happened to:

Happy Mondays - Pills, Thrills and Bellyaches
Black Rebel Motorcyle Club - Take them on on your own
Fun Lovin Criminals 'Come find yourself' & '100% Columbian
Stone Roses - 'Second Coming'
Primal Scream 'Give Out but don't give up'
Neil Young 'Freedom', 'Ragged Glory'

That's just off the top of my head.

Coldplay? Muse?... F*** off!:lolsign:

Coldplay I 100% agree with you... Muse I think are rather good... :sofa:

Now Michael Jackson - Bad? Do me a favour!

Muse would be a lot better without the histrionic singing. I bought the second album and gave it away just could not be doing with his voice. It's all personal taste, I guess, I like Axl Rose's vocals but for a lot of people they make G & R unlistenable.

Interersting to see if anyone can beat your 37 - (apart from the Q magazine staff of course, after a listening session with them i would probabaly want to top myself judging by the bulk of that list:lol:)

Nice to see "Ten" by Pearl Jam in the top 50, a big favorite of mine.
Californication RHCP , don't know why I haven't got that as I have 4 other RHCP records.

I only have one on that list - U2, The Joshua Tree.

Had a couple of others but they soon got disposed of.

The vast majority of the "artistes" have as much musicianship as a monkey banging a dustbin with a hammer

19...

In my book these belongs in any top10 list
OK Computer - Radiohead
Nevermind - Nirvana

Clash are to old but no mentioning of The The and on my personal list there would also be room for Massive Attack and Portishead

Of the one's I've got even some of them ain't great:

2 Nevermind - Nirvana - good but got bored with it - prefer 'Bleach' tbh
3 (What's The Story) Morning Glory? - Oasis - a couple of good tracks
4 Definitely Maybe - Oasis - would be in my top 50 just about
7 The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses - landmark record, I'll always love it
14 Screamadelica - Primal Scream - likewise
27 Appetite For Destruction - Guns ‘n' Roses - a classic everyone should own
28 Urban Hymns - The Verve - good album but don't set the world on fire
42 Californication – Red Hot Chili Peppers - widely considered by true fans as crap, and I agree. Q readers have never heard 'Blood Sugar Sex Magic' I assume?
50 Back to Black – Amy Winehouse - not as good as her first one

It would appear as though there arent many fans of so called "popular music" here.

Looks like we all have far better taste, :D

I'm not a fan as such but wouldn't touch 'Californication' with a pole.
Feed me 'Mothers milk' and a some 'Blood Sugar Sex Magic' loving and I can die a happy man :fingers:

Oh, and I LOVE Californication! My favourite RHCP album, so I am obviously not a real fan!

Just re-checked against my itunes database and I actually have 40 of them!

I'm obviously a sucker for marketing - did I tell you all I'm getting a Bose system soon? :D

27 over here, but if I were to compile a similar list only about 4 or 5 of those would be in it.

I'd agree with that - though I may have a lot of them, a very high percentage haven't been played in a long while...

As is usual with these things, you find the list contains mostly stuff from the last 10 years as the people who publish them were not around when really good music was about! Don't get me wrong, there is a good bit of great new music about, just not the trendy shite like oasis etc. Take these lists with a pinch of salt!

I have just 10 of the top 50, I must have great taste! lol

I have 5 (including two by one of Alex's 'favourite' groups! ;)). But what a depressing list - what is it about Radiohead: a more depressing, miserable-sounding band I can't imagine?

But sometimes Barry, its nice to wallow in your own misery! Like whenever I'm feeling I'm drinking too much (every morning, then;) - although I'm on the wagon again at the moment - see how long it lasts this time!) I put on Leaving Las Vegas and open another bottle. If that doesn't cheer me up, I put on The Virgin Suicides. And open another bottle! By then I'm begging for Radiohead. And another bottle! :eyebrows:

In my defence, it's the "scatter gun approach" - when I see your Spinning Today posts I reckon I have a fair few of them (think my record is 5 in a row) - the "problem" is I buy too much music!

Mid table respectability here with 22.

The absence of Silver Sun's first album from this list is unforgivable.

Strangely, I do prefer Portishead, though I've only ever heard their first title but don't have a copy. What little Joy Division I have heard has made no impression on me, one way or another.

Thing is for most of the artists I can think of another that does similar better or better albums from that artist.

I've got 25, but I could easily get rid of some of those....

There is some poor music in that list....

I think the ones that raise the most bile are:

American Idiot (I have everything by Green Day up to this point, they took a serious nosedive and stayed there)
Californication (see above)
U2
Coldplay
The Stone Roses

you can tell it's bloody Q magazine, no metal, no hiphop, no folk, only crossover dance music

45 Dig Your Own Hole – The Chemical Brothers

That's the only one I have, although there are probably a couple of others I would consider.
