Back in the 80`s when i wasn`t so settled i had a little portable system made up of a Sony pro walkman and a set of A & R "powered partners" heavy little wedge shaped actives with seperate amps in each in a sturdy aluminium case, they had 4" long throw woofers with magnets almost as big as the cones and gave exceptional bass for such a small unit.
You could power them with mains or 12v dc, and they sounded superb, i sold mine on when i settled down and got back the £235 i paid for them 8 yrs earlier, but regreted it when i got a PC.

I was pleased to see that Advent had baught the rights to make them again and you can now get them from amazon but only amazon in America, i tried to buy a set yesterday and they wont ship them here :steam:

At the current exchange rate they are half what i paid back in the 80`s and well worth it if you want something for your PC or traveling with to plug the i pod into.
35 watts each shielded and built like little tanks with bass and treble adjustment.
I loved them:)
