View Full Version : Another reason why I don't like winters

I have a furnace in the basement which burns natural gas and heats the entire house (3 floors). This furnace pushes hot air up the ducts and through the openings in the floor boards. Well, needless to say, when the furnace is on, it makes noise and the air getting pushed through the floor openings makes noise too.

This interferes with my critical listening. I am forced to schedule my listening sessions around the times when either my wife is not in and the house temperature can fall below 70 degrees, or when the house has been warmed up enough that I can turn the heat off for a few quiet hours.

And so I suffer for at least 5 months of the year... wait a minute, that's longer than winter time! So I also don't like fall and spring. This audio hobby is really messing with me.

Turn the heat off and whack the volume up a bit so you can't hear the wife complain - if she is persistant just buy her a cardigan and some mittens for her birthday/Xmas (whatever comes first) thus also killing two birds with one stone.;

Buy yourself a mutha of a class A power amplifier & turn the heating off & just heat the music room with the amp ;)

Wouldn't a beefy tube amp be better for such purposes?

A big class A tube amp will probably put out more heat due to the tube heaters as well as the class A biasing :eyebrows:

So i guess the answer is yes ;)

Alex, may I suggest some headphones for the winter. That way, you won't hear the heating system. :cool:

Or turn off the heating and wear headphones to keep your ears warm. ;)
