Twelve in total since 1978. The best is by far the Croft pre/power I own now and the worst was an Inca Tech Claymore.
I used to buy and sell years ago so have been through a few dozen mostly late seventies/early eighties Jap stuff, as Andre says you can never remember the model numbers on those things.
Of the ones that stand out in memory:
A&R A60
Cambridge P50, P70 (a mate now has the P70, still sounds great)
Nad 3020i
Denon PMA250 Mk1 UKSE (wonderful amp) and Mk2 (not so hot)
Creek 4040
Leak TL10 (one only, used with passive pre into a Lowther PM7 in Acousta cab (interesting, but not for rock n roll)
Rotel RA1060
Linn LK1, LK100
Croft Micro basic pre
Williams Audio dual mono power amp
Only the following over 34 years
Amstrad EX220
Rotel RA820BX
Naim NAIT 2 ("Chrome bumper")
Arcam Delta 90 + Delta90P
Arcam A85 (+ P85 for a while)
I suspect there have been lunchtimes where Andre has changed more times :ner:

Its good reading threads like this makes me think I am not as compulsive as I sometimes think;)

No valve amps, dude? ;)
You should try some of the good ones sometime, just for a wee change :)
Marco.

No, not a valve in sight ;) Perhaps one day i may well give them a go, the problem is i tend to build my own speakers Marco & they are often active & this doesn't lend itself too easily to valve amps unless there were a few or i toss a coin to see if the mids or tweeters get the valves
If i understood how they worked i might be tempted to build my own as i have done in the past & will do in the future with solid state amps :)
6 - still have 5 of them.
Nearly bought one blind a few years back (Athena) - glad I didn't I don't like 'warm' amps either:)

1976 - ILP DIY job (underpowered - destroyed a few tweeters)
1978 - Crimson Elektrik DIY job (very good)
1982 - Technics SUV505 (crap)
1985 - Crimson Elektrik DIY job resurrected
1989 - Marantz PM80 (class A - nice)

2004 - ATC SIA2-150 (very good)
2008 - Croft Syntegra (bloody amazing)
Still got the Croft. Don't expect that to change any time soon.

What did you think of the Concordant excelsior pre ?
I had one for many years , very good ,and even better after some mods but perhaps it had too much gain .

The Polaris was an early one about 100W Mosfet..A bit Smothe sounding for my tastes..Yeh they do go cheap, look the biz tho
Edit: Smoothe sounding rather than Warm
The Sumo Nine was the one to go for
Oh dear, don’t like to think about this. This is what I remember atm.
Affordable Valve Co amp (second hand in bits)

I've not had many amps to be honest so here goes
Leak Stereo 30 (my 1st amp given to me by my dad)
Technics SU-V4 (built like a tank sounded great and heated the house at the same time)
Mission Cyrus1 & 2 (i liked the cyrus 1 so much i bought it's big bro)
Technics SU-CH700 (part of a mini system)
Kenwood KRF-V5010 (horrible cheap plastic crap)
Harmon Kardon AVR65 (nice sounding A/V reciever but a bit plasticy)
Marantz SR5400 (an awsome sound from an A/V amp built like a tank too)
Cambridge Audio A1 (nice little amp pleasing to the ear but a bit light on power)
Pioneer A400 (a really nice amp which sounds awsome since it's recap)
My first amp was a Sony integrated thing with a horizontal slider for a volume control. I hooked out a pre-amp feed to allow me to use it with my 1st proper amp
Quad 405
Meridian 101b
Velleman K8020 Valve preamp (really nice kit, much better with some better valves)
Meridian 201
Quad II (std)
Quad II Chrome
Restek Fantasy
Not many know the Restek but I love it!!!!

Pioneer SA720 (I think)
Mission Cyrus 2 and PSX
Copland CSA-14 which I still use
Rotel RA-04
Topping TP20 mk2 (2020 tripath) hooked up to the PC.

My amp history
1982 A phillips integrated , very ordinary .
1984 NAD 3020A , classic smooth sounding amp ,
1986 Mission Cyrus 2 , bright and detailed but a bit dry !
1989 Cyrus 2 + PSX psu
1990 Concordant Excelsior valve pre, very open and transparent with perhaps a rose tinted view of things , used this with a Hafler 2000 power amp (borrowed) for a few months , then bought a pair of Quad 2's modified by Doug Dunlop ! rebadged as Concordant Exultant Quad 2's , nice and sweet sounding but a bit lightweight ,lacking balls.
1994 Concordant Excelsior with Concordant Exemplar 100w SS amp built by les Wolstenholm , very fine combo .
1997 Concordant Excelsior upgraded and modified with Audio innovations 2nd audio mono 2A3 amps
1999 2nd Audio's fitted with Border patrol psu's , powerful ballsy sounding triode's .
2005 Musical Fidelity X80 , bit of a downgrade but a nice little amp .
2008 Cambridge Audio 340A , a good budget amp
2009 Cambridge Audio 740A , lovely amp and will be in use for the next couple of years .

Good grief, I thought I was the only surviving nut to hang onto my Quantum kit over all these years
I can’t put my finger/ear on exactly what it is they have but they’ve seen off every other amp bar my current modded Exposure I’ve owned and a great many I’ve borrowed and listened to in my system.
I’m finally “adjusting” a 102/207DA combo atm which have been a bit neglected and now need some attention.
I would love to improve the S/N ratio on the line in on the 102 but I’m not sure the best way to go about it yet.

I couldn't agree more -I'm a big fan of the Quantums as, when they're not popping, banging, humming or blowing fuses, they sound fabulous, and the 102 has a superb phono stage.
The trouble was, my 207 spluttered to a halt about a week after the 102 decided to start picking up LW radio on its phono input! I borrowed the Supernait from the HFW office over the Christmas period that immediately followed this so that I would have music and loved it so much that I ended up buying one.
Despite repairing the 102/207 and being surprised at how closely it ran the Naim, I'm afraid the lure of reliability and more than 3 inputs won the day, so they were sold on.
I'd still like to hear a pair of 205 monoblocks though.....;)

Says the man who recently posted that he wasn't buying any more gear... ;)
Good job that Jerry hasn't posted his complete list, as the servers would go into meltdown
Heck, I need to spend a while compiling my list over the years. My very first amp was a Rotel RA310 back in the 70's, then I moved on to a Pioneer SX636 receiver, a Sansui AU101, followed by an err, um, dunno, so that's the blank area I need to fill in.
Of recent times I have had a Musical Fidelity Trivista 300, an Aaaron Millenium 3, Rotel Michi, AVI, more MF in the shape of an F22 and an A308. A couple of Hafler and some Tresham Audio.
But the one item that sticks in my memory which I have never owned only loaned for a week or two is a Rappaport Pre3 and would love to get my hands on one :eyebrows:

The 80W matching class A power amp was also very nice from the reports i had from those that were using it :eyebrows: Bit of a big beast though, i think i remember actually seeing it & it made Passlabs stuff look small
However we have gone over this before ;) Something tells me that very few got imported so i wish you the best of luck in finding any Rappaport gear.

All the ones with an asterisk I've still got, most tucked away from the mooses's prying eyes!
The most awesome amps I heard in my youth were a pair of incredibly rare Dynavector valve monoblocks in hammer blue finish. I even borrowed them for a while, ran them in my system. How I wish I could get my hands on them again.
Yum Yum how much paul ££?
Still using the ID1P with the TOCA power amps.
The ID25 needs a service and will probably get a bigger dual mono power supply built at the same time :) Will give you a shout when its done but it could be a while.

To stick strictly to the wording of the thread, that is to say 'owned' (in the past tense), then the answer is 3:
Mullard 5-10 valve monoblocks (10w/channel), fed by a Sugden C51 preamp
Quad II monoblocks (15w/channel), fed by a Quad 22 preamp
Home built Sugden A21 power amp (12.5w/ channel), later upgraded to A51 (25w/channel) fed by a Sugden C51 preamp. Still possess a sample of the C51.
I still possess the following power amplifiers:
Quad 50E 50w monoblocks (3 off)
Quad 303 (45w/channel)
Quad 405-1 (limited to 50w/channel)
Quad 405-2 (limited to 50w/channel)
and will soon be acquiring a Quad 520f.
I have the following preamps:
Hafler DH101
Sugden C51 (needs a separate power supply)
Quad 33
Quad 44
Mark levinson ML10A
Mark Levinson ML25 phono stage
Mark Levinson ML26
and in use at the moment:
Mark Levinson ML28.
Not to mention my first system at the age of 11 (AKAI something lol) or the 3-4 surround sound amps i've owned, for the past 30-32 years (i'll spare you the calculation i'm 52 rotfl) i've owned 4 pre-power amps and still have them.
1) Sansui Au-9090
2) Accuphase C-200 / P-300
3) Musical Fidelity MVT 3 / A-370 ii
5) Jeff Rowland Synergy ii / Model 8ti
No No..Don't do that needs to be all original how much paul ££? :eyebrows:

70's era Sony receiver massive chrome thing
Marantz pm 44 se budget super amp (first real proper amp loved it)
Pioneer home cinema receiver not sure of model

Hi Chris, it was a nice combo but i always thought the integrated SU-A900mk2 sounded a touch better, and it was also better built than the pre/power combo, also keep in mind these both retailed for £400 (thats what i paid back in the day at my local Technics dealer), so maybe some cuts was made to the internals on the pre/power amps to keep costs down, both great amps in there own right, also the A909 was newer (end of the 90's?) whereas the 900mk2 was 95 i think, shame i don't still own them.

Not that i'd now be seen dead with a Technics item i feel the best of the bunch were the 9000's series from the 70's.

Cambridge Audio A1*
Musical Fidelity A3*
Pretty lame :( but I'm quite happy with what I have right now. However, joining in here tells me things are about to change!
* still have these, but I have never used the A1 really and it's in the box. It was going to live in a garage for music whilst pottering! But I don't have a garage anymore..........

Ummm, these are the few I can remember, there's probably more along the way but I'm buggered if I can recall. What I do know is that I seem to have stopped at modified Audiolabs - for now anyway. When I move house and have a decent listening room, I will be purchasing one of Anthony's copper specials. Nothing has blown me away like one of those puppies. Just need to set £6k-ish aside. ;)
Pioneer something-or-other
Sony TA-F240
Creek 4140 S2
Marantz SRD-9600
Cyrus One
Kenwood 3040 (I think?) for rear channel stuff
Another Kenwood that I can't remember
Audiolab 8000A
Audiolab 8000Q
Audiolab 8000P x2 - subsequently modified, and then sold
another Audiolab 8000A - modified (current)
So, André... Lot's of interesting gear there and tantalising statement at the beginning about your experiences.
Which of the list are good and which bad? Fancy copy and pasting your original post into good, average and bad sections?

Not so much, indeed...
First one was a LUXMANN, I even can't remember the model... bought in 1989 and sold in ... 2000 or 2001 when I bought my first ONIX (OA24+2 OA401)... Still have them at home...
In the last 18 month: I've bought
1 OA20 (playing in my doughter's living room)
1 OA21s (playing in my office)
2 OA24(1 sold) & 2 OA601
The guy is a bit mono-maniac, but this you already know!!! :mental:
So, if I count well: 7 (I don't take the pre in count)...
7: Pure and Perfect!?! Isn't it? :eyebrows:
O.A. ;)
