A very nice customer has offered to sell me the RB1000 to go on a Garrard 401 that I hopefully will be getting when the deal has been done.

Will the RB1000 out-perform the Jelco on my SL1210, reason for asking is I hopefully will be getting a Jelco later this year.

It depends entirely on what you mean by "out-perform". The Rega may be better in terms of detail, note edge definition etc; however the Jelco may have the edge when in comes to communicating the music. Isokinetik sell the Jelco at a very favourable price (see their eBay shop listing (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JELCO-SA-750D-BRAND-NEW-HIGH-END-TONEARM-RRP-450-/180604718802?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_HomeAudioHiF i_Turntables&hash=item2a0ce14ed2)) so I know where my money would be going ;)

I remain unconvinced by either the Jelco, or its apparent 'musicality'.

Have you ever heard one properly, Mark? If not, you will when you hear mine :)

Why not by a Michell technoarm? It's 1/4 of the cost 2nd hand. The rega 1000 and 250 are virtually the same arm apart from a better bearing

Lol - oh it'll happen, dude. I just have to fit it into my rather busy schedule... I've probably got about a dozen bake-offs I want to do this year! :)

I'm not planning on holding, or going to, any bake-offs as such - I am still pretty busy though and, unfortunately, I suspect it will be difficult finding a time when all parties are free.

What's going on with your 9 line sig Marco - it's a bit excessive isn't it?

Lol - I just like to be thorough, and as quite a few people are interested in what I use in my system, it's a way for them to see it all 'at a glance' :)

Yup, we're all busy people, but I'm sure we can squeeze something in at some point during 2011! ;)

I don't think the RB tonearms are fully compatible with the Techie myself and can well believe the success of the Jelcos and SME 309s with this deck as the coupling between stylus and arm-base has controlled breaks in these latter arms. The RB1000 does have a great finish and the bearings and wiring are better than the standard article as supplied, but my personal feeling is that the RB1000 is a tad more about profit rather than out and out performance - those better ball races don't cost that much more - around £20 tops I was told by an engineer who had priced these things.
