I'm surprised that this hasn't been done yet in an (albeit new) AV section on a hi-fi forum.

So how about telling us about your favourite music based films?
Some of mine:

The Pixies (including the documentary Loud, Quiet, Loud)
Love - 'The Forever Changes Concert'
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - 'Live at Monterey'
Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues: A Musical Journey

Nic Roeg's 'Glastonbury Fayre' documentary from 1971

YyIYGES_U08

DA Pennebaker's 'Monterey Pop Festival 1967'.

The Complete DVD Set includes virtually all the footage shot, including a lot of stuff that never made the initial cut.

eqWVOSSmPpc

'The Soft Machine - Alive In Paris'

X2C5AKyKJRg

Bill Evans - 'Live At The Maintenance Shop', 1979 (not sure this has been officially released yet, but it should be)

aCO1Gd0jRto

Woodstock has to be mentioned... a bloody fantastic film.

A safe cracker setting up a band whilst on the run from a load of heavies & the police in the Paris Metro :)

Slagged off for years but in recent times ( compared to the dross that masquerades as entertainment nowdays) it has come to be regarded as a cult classic. Queen's music fits the visuals like a glove, Melody Anderson is cute and I would crawl over broken glass to get to Ornella Muti:eyebrows:

Ideally you want to get the special edition as Brian Blessed's commentary is outstandingly funny.

A complete rip off of Roxy Music's 'Song for Europe' IMHO

As for my favourite music film, other than live gig footage, it would be 'Dig!' a fantastic documentary about the insane world of the Brian Jonestown Massacre and their 'relationship' with the dandy warholes, filmed over 7 years...very very funny :)

Not sure if this concert will be to most peoples tastes but the quality of music reproduction is superb & likewise the video :)

Tiesto: Elements Of Life - Copenhagen (http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Tiesto-Elements-of-Life-Copenhagen-Blu-ray/11221/) 3446

Two blu ray discs with 2 hours of music & video on each one :eyebrows: Not sure if it happens to be surround sound as yet due to only downmixing to stereo but i should imagine it is.

Looking forward to hearing it doing the business soon & i can't wait :)

I've been using a video plugin for winamp called morphyre, which has a similar psychedelic goal, obviously not as good as pre-prepared stuff, but very nice if you have a good graphics card, and is configurable too... :)

Not sure if there are any fans of Billy Idol on here, i'm not a huge fan but he's ok :eyebrows: I picked up the blu ray of one of his concerts (In Super Overdrive) (http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Billy-Idol-In-Super-Overdrive-Live-Blu-ray/6855/#Review) & gave it a spin. I was shocked at how good the concert was, how good the sound quality was & the picture as well

3481

For a 54 year old geezer he's got a shed load of energy :fingers: Nothing against older folks, i'm 45 myself this year

I really wasn't expecting the music to be as good live as the stuff on his CD that i have (Idol Songs) but in all honesty it was just as good if not better..

Highly recommended

Get it Paul, you will not be disappointed ;) Imo the music is better than his album i mentioned which was a huge surprise! In all honesty i was expecting it to be simpler & less involving than the album music but it was at least as good :)

Kraftwerk's minimum/maximum is a very well recorded live music DVD, in DTS

They've recorded so that each of the four has a surround sound channel, rather than the rears just being used for 'the audience'

Rings around the world 'super furries' DVD is mixed completely in 5.1 DTS

Primal Screams 'riot city blues tour' is remarkably well recorded, much better than when I saw them on that tour.

DJ Shadow's 'in tune and on time' is very good, particularly the jam session with cut chemist

Gorilaz live at Manchester

Cream's reunion gig at the royal albert hall is very well recorded

ministry sphinctour, is good too

Just a few to be going on with...

Ah you've just reminded me, this is very good too, especially pornography (my favourite)

The Cure Trilogy Live in Berlin 2002 Edit; and it's the original lineup for Pornagraphy, Smith/Tolhurst/Gallup

I think I've gone through most of 'LoveFilm's' music DVD catalogue, the fact that I've archived some of these is merely coincidental....;)

Hi Mike,

Not working here either.

You need to host the images through either Photobucket or Imageshack instead of direct linking to "ia.media-imdb.com".

It's likely that only members of that site (perhaps you're one or have signed up to something?) can view those pictures :)

No idea where to put this but i thik it fits.
Just been to the flicks to see Herzogs new movie Cave of forgotten dreams.
Herzog wasnt a fan of 3d but thought it would fit this doc.
Its about the cave in France that contains 30000 year old rock art. The art is breathtaking and the 3d medium really works as they are painted using the contours of the rock. The music was a contempary classical composition that really worked. Lots of choral stuff and dis resonant strings.
Its the ony movie ive seen where the crowd sat through the credits in absolute silence and didnt even move when the lights came up. Bit of a deep one but in a good way. Slowed me down for a bit from the bustle of London.
Recommended.

Have been watching a bit of folkstreams.net recently. It's an American site which delves into the history of Blues,Gospel,Jazz and all sorts of other traditional flavours of music.
Very interesting documentaries with some rare footage of some famous and not so famous artists.
Not everyone's cup of tea maybe..
