iPod Dock with digital out

I'm looking to get an iPod dock with a digital output and a DAC, any suggestions as to what i should be looking for, it'll be a stand alone i.e. it doesn't need to connect to a pc or any other computer hardware, just out of the DAC and into the amp simples :)

Hi Mike

Either the Wadia 170i or Onkyo ND-S1 have digital outputs.

The new Wadia 171i claims improved performance but there is also a price increase.

they both cost a small fotune :eek::eek: what about the Onkyo NDS1, anyone know what it's like? it seems to cover all the bases and won't break the bank

Onkyo make some nice kit so i'm sure it'll suffice & won't disappoint, there must be others out there though...

Lets have some more suggestions just to make things more complicated :lol:

The Onkyo ND-S1 sounds very good when connected to a decent DAC.

It does not have the same build quality as the Wadia, the Wadia does sound better, but the Onkyo has a few more useful features.

I have heard a lot of good things about the onkyo ... I had one on loan for the night once too but I didn't use it to it's full capability as I was just interested in how good it sounded with the iPhone streaming using plug player .. Not so good is the answer to that ...

Not totally sure about this, but if your looking for a cheaper option check out the Pure i-20. Retails at about £75 & claims to be what your looking for!?

Definately food for thought, i really dont think the Wadia or the Krell are in the running, they're just too expensive, but i think i'll take a closer look at the pure and the onkyo and then add a seperate DAC

Anyone tried the Audiocom mods on the Onkyo NDS1?

I'm using this dock, and adding a custom PSU has brought a nice improvement.
But I still think my setup using the Halide Bridge USB / SPDIF converter sounds a little bit better.

I'm wondering whether going for the Audiocom mods or adding some kind of reclocker/upsampler like the Firestone Bravo or the Audio-GD Digital Interface.
Any thoughts?
