Treadmill Woes.

Hi

I e bayed a Reebok treadmill in Sept.

I've run it sparingly since then but having a bit of time off just now I've run it up and found the unit to be faulty. I've had my suspicions that all was not well but only now have had the time to investigate.

The unit has given off bit of a whiff after some 10/15 minutes. The unit otherwise runs perfectly and very smoothly but so I found it difficult there was a lot wrong.

Today its blown th house fuse and refuses to run at all now. The motor has got very warm (tho' not hot)which suspect is the source of the problem. The motor is not seized and the fan is intact and runs freely.

I'm not sure where to go from here.

The seller is not a registered user now.......I have contacted pay pal to see what can be done. E bay only list stuff from the past 2 months so that seems to be a dead avenue to me.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with these machines or recommend a course of action now.

I shall have to talk to the techies at Reebok who have been in the past very helpful.

I doubt it's the motor that'll be the problem in all honesty. I think you'll find it's probably something to do with the speed control, after all you don't want to be going flat out all the time :eyebrows:

I could be wrong, but motors tend to be pretty reliable ;) It's when you get electronic & mechanical stuff together that things tend to go wrong :rolleyes: For instance, i have a Bosch drill that has a perfect motor on it that has got to near red heat previously, it got a bit hot drilling a load of half inch holes in thick steel :mental: The thing is it's over 25 years old, only the variable speed control is naff, the motor is fine & it's had heavy & prolonged use...

I haven't been fast with it at all in truth.

When it popped the fuse just now I reset the house electrics.....it didn't want to know at all, just popped the (sorry I forget the correct expression)the fuse with out moving at all.

I'll talk to Reebok on Monday.

Inputs till then very welcome....this project was always going to be learning curve for me tho' its turned the wrong way just now.

Having a dig last night,the speed controller does seem to be n question.

I hope its that as its the cheapest option!

I really can't see much wrong with motor just now, though when I took the cover off, it was little bit whiffy, tho' little oiut of the ordinary.

The tracks can give off a smell too so the things a bit confusng just now.

Well, there of course, lies a great debate.

Its like this GW; I have back injury that pretty much precludes me from running (much as might like to).

Walking is good for my back tho' but I hate it; walking for walking sake.

The original idea of the treadmill is that I can go and use it whenever....listen to the radio or whatever.

I'm well aware they are contentious items. It just happens to suit me to do it like this, if the damn thing would work (there was inevitably going to be learning curve involved).

Just thought I'd relay this in case its of use to any one else..

I just had my Dad a round to join forces for some jobs. I showed him the TM and explained what had happened (he is far better at electronics than me).

Whislt i had gone strictly by the instructions with the lubricant he suggested I shoud chuck a load more under there. Just done.......I 'm kicking my self for not doing it before; I can see what's its intended to do now.

I plugged it in and switched on. It ran up sweet as a nut. I ran it for just over a minute without any problem, albeit without me on it!

I'll try it again later. I hope that success means there's not much nasty done to it.
