Mini Monitors - simple question

What is the best mini monitor (ie under 350mm tall) you have heard, regardless of room ,system, music, drugs, women etc

I'll vouch for Mission 780se... 300mm tall.

I'm sure there must be better out there but i haven't heard them ;)

Mission 780SE's a dessssssssssssssssssscent speaker - with cheapo sssssspitter masquerading as a tweeter? Gads sir, you haven't lived!!!!!!!!!

The Harbeth P3ESR has to be one of the finest little boxes I've ever heard and IMO is better than the Monitor 20, as it has the latest bass driver and isn't constrained by the LS3/5A balance quite so much. This latest P3ESR can totally disappear from the proceedings and is the latest baby to fool you into thinking it's much bigger than it actually is - wonderful!!!!!! :)

Reference 3A Dulcet :)

Beautiful design with no crossover, a custom hand made main driver and modified tweeter.

Only problem is the cost and a good pair of stands to use with them. I love them and use them in my upstairs system.

Yes I think your right there's one...a high pass filter on the tweeter.

Yes, the Monitor 20 does exist in GB but the P3ESR is the one for domestic use.

The P3ESR is a modern LS3/5A. Both designed as near field monitors but the P3ESR has a lot more mid body, far better bass, cleaner HF, is easier to drive and takes greater power.

An excellent speaker as are all Harbeths. It has greater scale, more and better bass plus higher SPL's than the P3ESR but in a larger box. It shares the family 'right there in the room' vocals and ease of drive.

It has been very popular.

Acoustic Energy AE1 , but they need a hell of an amp , amazingly as it may seem the very early version back in 88 aparently was easier to drive and Doug Dunlop got them to sing with his modified Quad 2's at the 1989 Chesterfield hifi show .

I had the rosewood AE1's for a couple of years , but i found they sounded gutless with my Concordant modded Quads , however a 100 watt KT88 PP Kit amp i borrowed sounded devastating , alas it wasn't for sale so i used 100 watt Concordant Exemplar which just didn't gel with them , Ian from V'Audio told me he found that high powered valve amp's sounded best with the AE1 , go's against the accepted wisdom at the time , everyone was saying only the Naim 250 or 135 could make them sing.
