hi there and a happy new year to u all,i have just joined and posted my question on the visitors page so sorry bout that ,my set up is ayon crossfire amp and an ayoc cd1 player i have castle howard speakers and am looking to by new ones,dont know if i should go for horn or maybe listen to vienna grand im hoping for a home demo in the next month as hubby is working in the sitting room,also anybody heard the zinggalli floor standers,look forward to read any advice you can give...thanx

Hi Maria, welcome to AoS :) Sorry, i can't really help with the speaker side of things simply because i haven't heard any of them, though i might add that considering what you are thinking of purchasing i'd give a decent set of open baffles a listen ;)

Actually it's speakers without an enclosure :eyebrows: A Dipole if you like, similar to an electrostatic or planar speaker but generally using fairly normal drive units.

The reason i mentioned it is simply because it appears you are looking for high sensitivity speakers & OBs can & often are very sensitive :) 99Db/W/M isn't unheard of..

Hi Maria and welcome. I've heard both the Viennas and the Zingalis and they certainly sound different from each other so you wouldn't have difficulty differentiating them. The real question is which would better suit your room and system. A photo of your room would be helpful.

As I remember them, the Vienna has a slightly tonally warm but big sound, very nice from top to bottom. The Zingali floorstanders beam somewhat and are on the cool side of neutral, I would say their imaging is distinctly odd. Being horns they are more efficient and need less power.

Show us your room and we'll try to comment some more.

hi there guys,big thanx for the replys,mark i know what you mean now though ive not seen these kind of speakers in my hi fi shops,though if i asked somebody could get them for me,i bought my hi fi from sounds of music and the guy drove up from england with it,i could not fault the team they have down there,paul good to hear you also have castles speakers,what afinnish on the cabinets mines are ewe would they sing like a bird and are a pleasure to the eye.barry thanx for the link i been in audio salon and demd the pathos amp not the mark1 the 1 up from that,and saw the zingallis,if you log on to ayon audio you will see my AMP AND CD PLAYER,my music taste is all sorts,john martyn,dylan,nirvana,radio head,g/n/roses,bhudda bar and all chill.alice in chains cypress,primal scream,hubby is a1 of he has no intrest in music,maybe kylie,though not for hear vocal chords::lol::lol: i will have to get my brother to put a pic on as i do not know how...:scratch:hi martin i see you have usher speakers somebody said i shoul listen to them and maybe living voice,thanx again for the info and enjoy your tune this weekend:)

Ahh...John Martyn :) Absolute genius,sadly no longer with us.Had the fortune to see him live once or twice,outstanding!!
The Castles are what I can best describe as Dark Oak,using a Quad 303 for each of them,so should I decide to turn the wick up a bit,they do really sing,although the room isnt really big enough to do them justice I feel.
Good luck with your replacements-have you tought of keeping the Castles for a second system? I intend to set up a "proper" system downstairs at somepoint,pretty much the same as the set-up I have upstairs,based around Quad amps,Thorens/sme/shure turntable,Meridian 200/263 and Revox RtR machines..one day..one day..

They sound good with valves and warmer side of neutral solid state amplification. Ayon also make speakers, though I have not heard any.

The Ushers are certainly worth a listen; nice speakers.
I would take Ali up on his kind offer. Open baffles can be pretty special but generally quite big so not for everyone.
I only heard one pair of standmount Zingalis so cannot really comment

Hello Maria and welcome from me, worth a trip down to Scalford in March as you will get to hear a selection of open baffles and other creations, there was nearly every type of speaker there last time, open baffles, horns, ribbons, electrostats, home grown and conventional as well.

Ushers need reasonable power levels from amplifiers to work right, especially in big rooms. 25watts is imho not enough for say the Usher 719s and the like 75 watts up is much better.

I would look at speakers that are reasonably efficient and any dems you go to take your amplifier along. Better still get a home loan/demo.

The OB's are a DIY design built by another member here, for which I swopped a pair of DIY MLTL's using a Fosex FE167e and FT17h supertweeter per side. The OB's have an 8 inch Visaton B200 fullrange and two Emeinence Alpha 15 inch woofers per side. They are rather large-

I have had many valve amps in the past, mostly kits/DIY, and a couple of Chinese ones-the Mr Liang 845 SE and an Audioromy 813 SE, but am currently using a pair of Bantam Audio Gold amps to drive the OB's via a Behringer active crossover. I also currently use a WAD Pre 2 valve preamp. These amps and speakers will eventually be used for AV,as you may be able to see in the picture, there are a pair of ER Audio electrostatics behind the OB's, for which a friend is building me a pair of GM70 direct coupled valve amps. These will be used for music.

hi all,i have filled out my user cp if any1 is interested,as i said im going to purchase new speakers anybody any thoughts on klipsch p37 speakers or any klipsch speakers or verity finn speakers,i also spoke today to mathew jamison from real hi fi about bella luna or the venus speakers from duvel ,this was after seeing a picture of these from a new member cant recall his name at the moment,:scratch :cool:reards maria,ps after being on this fourm im think of a cheap turntable after reading comments about them ......:)
