I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread where we can alert forum members to upcoming tours that others may not be aware of? (Not sure if this is the right room?) May be worth making it a sticky?

Anyway, to kick it off, my beloved Tina Dico is on tour in February - I know I've banged on about her a lot in the Spinning Today thread, but if female singer-songwriter's are up your street then you should check her out both live and recorded - maybe even live recorded ;)

Glad that you enjoy one of our minor exports... well minor compared to beer, bacon, butter, cheese and lego that is.
Personally I find her music a bit vanilla; a couple of catchy tunes but in general vanilla.
But she is easy to the eye ;)

OK, I'll keep on with it!

Just ordered tickets to see Sophie Barker, one of the other female voices made "famous" by her appearances on early Zero7 albums, as well as working with Groove Armada, The Egg, Tocadisco, Grooverider and Bliss - and I've previously "banged on" about her 2005 debut solo album "Earthbound" (which is fab, but too short, at 34 minutes long! :()

The Sophie Barker tour appears to have been postponed until September - rather annoyingly, I haven't been advised by the venue, found out by accident! Luckily didn't find out on the night after travelling for best part of 2 hours... then I'd have been really peed off...

...very good gig last night, the HMV institute/library is a pretty good venue for sound, the drummer was immense. I suppose the only downside is that without the original vocalist it does restrict their set options...;)

No Tailspin :( Sound was dreadful for the first few songs, hotter than hell in there tonight, so maybe that was why - but after that they really got going, much to the delight of a very appreciative audience. Lot's of fun in there and you would think they had never had a break. Mark was on top form I thought too. Bit of a cock up after the encore as they put the house lights on and people started to leave (including me) but just as I was leaving the hall I looked back and saw a roadie tuning Mark's guitar..... 'they ain't done yet I thought', so turned back and got encore number 2 :) Great night indeed - loved the new songs. They really looked like they were enjoying themselves too.

The sound at Manchester was really good & they hit the spot right from the off. I wasn't so keen on the Mark Olson +1 support slot, but the main event was brilliant. The new songs worked really well - sounding a bit Byrdsy, I thought. But most importantly, they had that quality that The Jayhawks (& one or two precious few other bands) are able to whistle up seemingly at will - you feel like the songs are a part of your life right from the very first time you hear them.

Thought this may be topical for some Rory Gallagher fans.... it's Miller time. I'm a huge fan of Larry Miller and he always puts on a fantastic live show.
His adulation for Rory rubs off in his (quirky) live performances and I know he's not Rory Gallagher (or Joe Bonamassa), but for sheer enjoyment he's a hard act to beat for fun and value for money. Strongly recommended for Rory fans.

This is not really coming to a venue near you, unless of course you live near Minehead, but the ATP (All Tomorrows Parties) festivals are definitely worth checking out if you're into more 'underground' music. Whilst the major summer festivals are increasingly commercial ATP amongst others, are taking up the slack for more alternative sounds...

I'm off to this one, and it looks very interesting, a very eclectic mix of stuff...;)

Gordon Giltrap last night at the Lights Andover was a superb, intimate, concert where he played solo and displayed all his mastery of both acoustic and electric guitars. We were in row 2 and right in front of him so we could see all his fingering very clearly. GG had an easy way with the audience, regaled us with stories of his experiences and played some utterly compelling music. I can't remember the last time I felt so relaxed at a concert, especially after a day's work. Most enjoyable.

I bought a book of Gordon Giltrap guitar transcriptions a few years back (I know :rolleyes:), and once I'd mastered what I could, I sold it on eBay... to Gordon Giltrap :lol: I asked him why he wanted to buy his own book and he replied that it was out if print and he had never kept a copy, saw it on eBay and thought "why not?"

Tindersticks are out on tour as a band again, they're doing a split show, part one is the film scores they've done, part 2 apparently a gig...I do hope part 2 is significantly longer than part 1, although I do enjoy some of their film scores ;)

If you have not seen or heard of The Musical Box, then they are worth exploring and shouldn't be dismissed as a 'cover band' - they are rather extraordinary IMO.
Take a listen on their website, the music you hear is them, not Genesis ;)

I saw them in Liverpool on the Trick of The Tail tour, very good.

This concert on 24th March features not only the St Petersburg Philharmonic playing Shossie's 7th but the superb conductor Yuri Temirkanov. And then we have the fabulous pianist Martha Argerich playing a piano concerto (TBC)!

I think quite a few folk enjoyed my album club selection of Barton Hollow by The Civil Wars, which recently won 2 Grammy awards.
Their March tour mostly sold out immediately, but they have just announced an autumn UK tour - most tickets go on sale tomorrow,
but Southampton and Cardiff and some others are on sale now.
They are an exceptional live act and a ticket won't break the bank either - highly recommended :)

Saw them in the early 90's at the phoenix festival (straford-upon-avon)...

They were at their peak in the early 90's. They were very good the other night as well, which was a real shock. The lineup has changed a lot, only Ed remains consistent, but the band is very tight; Brandi on bass and Ollie, in particular. It seems they live for the music and Ed's guitar is fantastic. They were always best live versus on record. I'm not sure if the Phoenix would have been the best venue to enjoy the Ozrics. They can work very well in a tent, but stick them on the main stage in front of an indifferent audience I think the magic would be lost.

PS. I know they're 30 years too late for you Andr'e!

Fantastic stuff. I really like these guys and I have most of their albums. I am normally pretty hard on groups that are ....well....clones of others. Gong, Steve Hillage, System 7 and Hawkwind all leap to mind re Ozrics but I still like them.

There is a very clear influence, but Ozrics do their own thing, and after nearly 30 years they have many clones of their own now! If you like their stuff, a lot, check out their website where you can get unreleased and live stuff in FLAC format. Proper price for an album's worth of material, but they deserve to make a living. It's nice to be able to hear some of the offshoots properly, like Nodens Ictus, one of their more ambient side-projects.

I fear you may be right Chris. However as fan of the electric guitar, Robert Cray is somone I feel I should have seen but never have and as the gig was local and at a small venue I felt it was too good an oppurtunity to miss. At least I will be able to tick him off the list. The week after the Rober Cray gig I'm off to see Eric Johnson for the first time also:).

The Joanne Shaw Taylor sounds good but midweek trips up to the smoke can be a pain especially if I have to work the next day:( However I may yet still be tempted:eyebrows:

There is a Wetherspoons across the road, but the Hen & Chicken is a more traditional London pub just a bit further away on the roundabout, or the Hope & Anchor, both better than JD W's but can get crowded on gig nights. There is a nice Thai restaurant on Upper Street too, but there's plenty to choose from.

I normally park in Kew Martin and get the Overground, but you can park nearby in the side streets, which I tend to do at the weekends. Parking at Kew is great for the M3 and saves driving through London. It is a pain location wise, but the venue is great, good sound and a very intimate atmosphere (but hard pews to sit on with no padding!). Anyways - I am about to travel down there twice again in February for the gigs at the Tate Modern - Kraftwerk.
Through a complete succession of lemony snicketts, after several hours on the telephone and getting more frustrated by the minute reading the rubbish being put out by Tate on the social media sites - I got through to a queue. Twenty minutes later saw me talking to a human. Not many tickets available so 2 of us were going to The Mix. Sent a text only to discover he had just got them for Autobahn..

While trying to make it difficult for Touts / Scalpers I see plenty going for really silly money on Viago / evilbay. Scum does not even begin to cover what those parasites are.

Oh come on Chris ;) - I've just done a quick count since the 21st September and there's been 20 (if I can count correctly :lol: ) posts on here, including mine and the two subsequent ones it precipitated. Some contained multiple gig dates but most contained none, just comments. So, in about 80 days there's probably been about 20 gigs to add, give or take, hardly mega time consuming - the biggest job would be setting it up, after that it would be not too onerous, even for some of our Mods :lol: .
I will concede that, if it was possible to do in the way I described,it would possibly become more popular, but if a job's worth doing ........ :) .
Nowt to do wi' me so if you regulars are happy with Skoda when you could have a Porsche who am I to complain? :scratch: :mental: :lol: :lol: .

Hi, as you may know I don't look in here very often, not being a gig attender, so apologies if it's been said before but wouldn't this thread be improved by being calendar based? Dates across the top and acts own the side in alphabetical order. Perhaps restrict mods to updating it based on info supplied by members. The calendar could update itself automatically datewise, dropping those acts with no future entries and when new entries were made they would automatically be placed in the correct alphabetical order.
Clicking on any act/date square would open up a new box giving gig venue ad other (supporting) acts etc.
Do we have any members capable of putting such a thing together?
Just a thought :) .

Dave - I can see the point, but to be honest, there's way too much work there. The simple idea of this thread was to alert people to upcoming tours - you see an artist you like - check their website for the nearest gig to you and ticket availability and then book online or do further googling - A calendar is a nice idea, but it would be way too complex to implement and maintain I think.

I have absolutely no problem with your response :) - nuff said! ;) .
The way I visualised it is that most things would be automatic and keeping it up to date would be no more onerous than it is now with the exception that entries could only be made by a member of the Admin Team. Even that could be mitigated by making a pro-forma thing available to all (senior?) members to fill in the details and PM them to mods who would only have to review them for compliance and then hit their 'Enter' button.
For it to work as I envisage would involve a major effort (labour of love) by a very computer data base savvy individual/member to set it all up but maintaining it would be quite simple if it could be done. Manually updating a large calendar based web page I accept is a non-starter but that was not what I envisaged.
File it away in the little round tin in the corner of the office ;) .

You may be the centre of your universe but that does not mean that every post on AoS is aimed at you, intended to be read by you or even expected to be read by you. The line you have quoted above is missing one important word, which changes the whole context. That word is the opening word, 'Alex'. :scratch:
The sentence was addressed to Alex, not you or anybody else.The point I was trying to make was that I had received a rebuttal to my suggestion from you which was a bit borderline to say the least in terms of poilteness, Alex's rebuttal was equally firm but expressed in language that no one could take exception to. My comment, 'nuff said' was also aimed at Alex (part of the same sentence) and intended to say that I was not going to argue with him as there was nothing in his statement to take exception to :) .
The remainder of my post was my attempt to explain how and why I thought the objections about how much time it would take to maintain may have been overestimated if the underlying database could be put together in the manner I imagined.
I would just add that it takes two to be irritated about who has the last word. :lol:

Can I assure Mods in particular and the public at large that none of my posts were made with any such intention.
It appears that I have a problem with the English language in that statements that I make with a completely neutral intention are being interpreted in a totally different manner, in other words I am being completely misunderstood, and by at least two people. I accept that that being the case, the fault is mine, I am not communicating effectively, indeed I am irritating the very people I am trying to communicate with. Therefore I am at fault and hold my hand up - mia culpa, no question!!
I will not withdraw any of my comments as I made them sincerely, but I accept that I have failed miserably to get my point across, so I would ask you and Chris to accept my apology and sincere assurance that nothing I posted was intended as fiittng any of the above phrases.

Well for me the artists than have really got my juices flowing on this latest tour are Teddy Thompson, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Eric Bibb. I have seen them all individually, but never together and throw Jerry Douglas into the mix and my head starts to spin, he's an absolute genius on the dobro.

I also have my favourite seat in the Festival Hall - note, not my favourite area, but my favourite seat . . . I can't wait :D

A bunch of us are going to see the Goddess that is Tina Dico in London next month, and it promises to be an unmissable experience. Well, except for my wife that is, because unfortunately, we've lost our babysitter for the evening, so she has kindly volunteered to stay at home whilst I go and enjoy myself (though I expect that means it will cost me in other ways, of course...)

Anyway, her misfortune could be your good fortune - I therefore have a spare ticket for the evening - due to the way ticketing works at the venue you'll have to come in with me, but as we'll all be meeting up beforehand you'll be quite safe! :lol:

I'm not worried about the cost of the ticket, just don't want to see it wasted - so PM me if you're interested - rather than first come first served, we'll make it a prize draw, to keep it fair for everyone.

David can do no wrong in my eyes Martin, always pushing the boundaries, always trying something new and a lighting rod for the times he lived in forming and changing fashion, art and music - a total genius in opinion.

I would pay the Glastonbury ticket price just to see him if I'm being honest!
