OK, nothing better to do so I spent an hour or two looking round for an online store that has the Rega DAC in stock. Found one but they wont sell it to me as it's listed as 'in store only'. Could someone please explain the reasons behind this as it has me completely befuffled.

It's not Richer Sounds is it?

Often shops will have different prices for buying in store simply because they don't have to deliver them, thus they can make it cheaper as long as you buy from the store itself ;)

I don't think Richer sounds have the Rega account (in fact I'm sure they don't).

The reason is because to supply mail-order would be in breach of the dealer agreement they signed with Rega. This agreement probably states (others I have seen do) that items should be sold through demonstration; or expressly states that some items cannot be sold mail order - this is largely to protect dealer margins and discourage discounting.

If thats the case its a lost sale. I'm unable to travel and the only dealer near me doesnt stock Rega.

No doubt they feel that losing a sale is preferable to the potential of losing the Rega account.

You could try a PM to Hifi_Dave (http://theartofsound.net/forum/private.php?do=newpm&u=1210) (Radlett Audio) who is a member and Rega dealer and he will no doubt confirm the position and help where he can.
