I've never yet bought anything that i can get working wirelessly.I've been trying to get a printer working this way for over an hour now & no chance even though the software is installed & ok..Anyone else get the same old crap everytime?
Setting up wireless LANs is part of my job, but they can fickle. My wireless network at home works fine and is secure, but then I would never buy a wireless printer or anything that does not strictly need to be wireless as it's asking for trouble.

I work for BT broadband, and of all the peripherals to set up on a wireless network printers are the most problematic, is it a wifi printer andre? or is it a printer that you are trying to plug into your router and make available over a wifi network?

i had a wifi printer once ... no word of a lie, its currently sat at the top of the stairs into the loft in quite a few peices after i got so angry with it the one day i stamped on it repeatedly .. .. ..
this was after it stopped working via usb ... it never worked over wifi.. not once!!

Oh i'm like that. i once threw a giant '2A3' tube amp i'd been making over a year (Audionote transformers, paper in oils, NOS cunningham tubes the lot) through the window cos the kids were getting on my tits, taking my concentration off it. i literally took the sash out of the window frame :lolsign: i have a very very short fuse.That was the most costly fuse i ever blew. :lolsign:

I once took a hammer to a fire alarm that kept going off very time I made a bacon sandwich. For some unaccountable reason it really shook the wife. I think she thought if I could smash an innocent fire alrm then she better reduce the nagging...:lol:
Well I agree with you Andre - and it makes no logical sense... My Playstation3 gave up the ghost just before Christmas, and had been fine on the wifi network, but the replacement latest PS3 Slim just would not "stick" despite giving it a fixed IP address and putting it in a DMZ - was always losing connection. Pissing thing refused to work for a week, then suddenly was OK again... I am reasonably competent on wireless networks, but it seems to me that sometimes specific devices and specific routers don't seem to gel... Hamish's approach seems sound! :)

Because i'm just about to install BT Broadband on another PC i purchased recently & if i remember correctly (through no fault of my own) i have always had problems getting it to work :steam: Every time i have needed to use the damn telephone number that's given on the BT broadband help thing & then it turns out i need to ring another...
All because i need to put some cobblers code into one box in the setup that i don't know or have :eek:
On a plus side once it's running & i'm online it's been a damn good service :)
my boys had trouble with their PS3's on our wireless network when i made it secure, so i have to now run a unsecure network so they can stay connected, the PS3's just wouldn't accept the password and connect

That'll be why I couldn't find a place to park outside your house last night, Jon. I wondered why there were so many cars with Nigerian number plates parked there!

the first time i remember that happeneing to me was playing the computer game mortal cobat as a kid ... i couldnt get past a level so i thumped my snes, the game flew out, i grabbed itand launched it at the window ... fortunatly the single glass pain was open, and fortunatly it went through ... and landed on the grass out side ... since then many things have met my wrath ... a wardrobe got beaten up, various electronics, a fire alarm (i can sympathise with that one) ... but never a human being ... i backhnded a kid in the face when i was 10 for getting with my "girlfreind" (i didnt know any better) and a chap got a gentle slap coz of making a noise at a party where the nieghbours were threatening o call the police ... but never anything serious ... ... inanimate objects often desuve a kicking ... but i find people dont ... even a chap who has made a move on my fiancee twice hasnt found a way to make me really angry yet ...

O yeah Hamish i find it much easier to lob mobile phones across the room . I just feel like shit when i have to go replace the damage day after :( It's very very odd behaviour on my part as i painfully look after everything in my home, one bit of dust anywhere or something out of place i'm not a happy bunny. but when i blow a fuse, i blow big style the world can go :finger: when i do. but i always seem to blow in the house & it's nearly always Hi-Fi, Gadget, Neighbour or family related :(

Yeah, it seems my biggest faffs have been hifi related recently ... Mostly the missis wanting me to move it ... Oooo we did have a barny the other day, but then eventually I always realise it's not worth it and let her have her way ...
Mobile phones are great for throwing, although I have not yet chucked an iPhone ...

smashed one of my mobiles up with my digger once, i've done plenty of other stupid temper tantram things over the years including picking up a petrol generater and throwing it across a park because it annoyed me, i called it therapy others call me a stupid cnut at the time

i used to work for an optocouple manufacturer some years ago they supplied us with mobile phone, i must have thrown about 5 at the dash of the car and broke and another 5 out of the window while driving, my ex missus knew exactly wich buttons to press:steam::steam:, and the stories i had to come up with for my boss, breaking another mobile:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
To lock up your wireless with a WPA key, it's best to think of an exact 13-character passkey with no spaces. This tends to work a treat with every device and overrides objections to shorter keys, spaces etc.

It's the maximum character length of a 128-bit WEP, WPA or WPA2 key. It tends to be universally accepted.
The easiest way to generate one is to join two or three memorable words together to form 13 characters.

It goes to show smart phones don't really like being on payg.
I think I was confused over unlocked/simless etc etc.
I originally wanted it to serve as an on line Polish /English dictionary. I did also need it to be able e to e mail photographs etc and it actually decided to go in the final hour, the final idea of the net and the mail went....if it hadn't been for that it would have beean back on e bay and a far too much wasted time. It very nearly ended up under my foot a couple of times.
