A few weeks ago I was told by a mate to check out the new encarnation of Oasis, they're called Beady Eye, and are fronted by Liam Gallagher.
All i can say is, that after listening to a preview of their new single the music rips you kicking and screaming back to 1994, where Oasis had grown up musically with Noel at the helm, Beady Eye have seemed to go backwards, but in doing so have recaptured some of the raw energy which was in abundance in Oasis's earlier works, see what you think......

I heard about this project but did not think it would get of the ground. Guitar player is good - I take it the album is not out yet?

For me they only ever did one half decent album, and that was mostly ripped off from T-Rex...any modicum of talent lay with Noel, so no surprise that Liam's band are rubbish!!!

I saw them at Glastonbury for the first time in '95, sandwiched between Page & Plant, and the Black Crows, my word did they suffer in comparison....:lolsign:

Personally i like the nostalga, but i think the band will be short lived given Liam is such an arse hole, as Will said Noel was the real tallent.

I'm not sure i have a single track of theirs even on any compilations

Just not my cup of tea rather like the beatles that so many people said they were kind of copying. None of their stuff either ;)

I hate to stick the boot in, but I do feel a little misquoted...my original phrase was 'modicum of talent'... ;)

C'mon, i'll agree they were a bunch of big headed sods but they did release some good tunes, or is it that i'm just a lot younger and more hip than you old guys :lol::lol:

"Some Might Say"

First album was great- so what if they ripped off T-rex on one tune? Big deal - like no-one ever ripped of a riff or a chord progression before.

Big egos? Yes - But fun it was to watch their antics back in day - proper outspoken working class pig ignorant Rock n Roll - these days bands are too scared of losing their contract so they toe the line...their the real tossers, lads.

I can't say I'm an Oasis fan, but you certainly have a point there! Rock n Roll should be all about rebellion, sadly not so much any more!

Interesting point too about bands "ripping off" riffs etc. When in my musically ambitious teens and I was learning keyboards and guitar and starting to write my own songs, my dad heard one and said, "you're doing an Elvis cover?" Now I had never heard the song (consciously) but he was right - it was almost identical. At the end of the day there aren't that many notes, it is bound to happen by accident, and sometimes it might not be a deliberate rip off, and it is not until the song is "out there" that the coincidence is discovered...

Liam Gallagher is still a tw@t though! ;)

Couldnt stand them the first time round, but, when i hear one of their familier hits these days, its takes me right back to the 90's, think of them what you will, they will always be the one band that can do that whether those days hold fond memories or bad!
Hearing some of their stuff now ie; "dont look back in anger" seems to sum it up for me.
as for liams latest stuff, well...

I'm in my 50's and I like Oasis , yeah there might be the odd song that sounds like something else but so what. Noel is a prolific songwriter, Liam is a dickhead but he makes me smile with his attitude I find him entertaining.

I like Oasis for entertainment value. I think Noel comes across as alright but his brother is just a clown. He owns a range of clothes that are priced high end , a parka for £400 stuff like that. The funny thing is he thinks he is quiet the mod but he is a scruffy ***t with a bad haircut. I hope he continues because he puts a smile on my face.

In terms of aging rock stars doing indie i think Edwyn Collins did a stirling job with his latest album that puts the manc brothers to shame and that was after the guy had a debilitating stroke.

I went to an Oasis concert in Brisbane back in the 90s. Liam sang a couple of songs (badly), then decided to grab his bottle of booze and walk off the stage, leaving Noel to continue the concert. After 45 minutes they fucked off.

I vowed there and then to never contribute another penny to them. Walking out, a guy next to me said he's been to see U2 a couple of weeks before and they had played for 2 hours and were brilliant!

I have a few Oasis albums, which I never paid for ;) and will eventually get them all, not because I want them, but to recover the money they owe me!

Liam had to return to Brisbane later for a court case involving his assault on a fan who asked him for a photo/autograph outside his hotel. The guy ended up with $20k settlement for his bruises.

Too bad Liam doesn't have the charisma to attract the attentions of some nutter with a gun! Still, I'd be a psychotic little prick too, I guess, if my brother had all the talent and I was a tosser!

Rant over...

That's just down right unproffesional, and i don't blame you having your dim view of them, i bet you paid a fortune for the ticket too as they would have been at the height of their fame back then.

All this talk of oasis and no one has mentioned that fact that the mastering on all of their albums is possibly the worst in the history of music!

I personally like the band, I've seen them a few times. Like most others, I think they are both tossers, Liam more so.

Anyway my 2 pence worth, I'm just disappointed that their music will be preserved for prosperity in the form of VU meter bending compressed to death mid heavy totally rubbish recordings! I think it would be nice to get hold of the original studio recordings which will no doubt be in awesome quality!

If you think their recordings sound dire, you should have heard them live. I think their mixer was pissed or stoned. They sounded dreadful!

Worst concert I ever went to. On the cost, I bought two tickets as I was treating an out of town friend to a night out, so they stung me twice!
