Call me a music snob all you want, (many have, but I'm not) but this is unacceptable. I'd heard about this album existing, but only now have I actually heard this abomination of an album.

take your pick:

I'm not even listening to them out of sheer indignation... :( (What a cop out/sell out - shouldn't be allowed!)

I have a soft spot for UB40...but this selection of songs is utter shite.

He really does appear to have invented a completely new genre in modern music.

i like reggae, but some tracks just don't lend themselves to that style, which unfortunatly are most of the tracks on that album, what the fcuk were they thinking!!!!!!!:eek:

you couldn't even really call it reggae, he dispensed with that long ago....
it's cheap cheesy pop music with synths that would have sounded dated in the late 80s....

i used to love UB40 even seen them in concert but they just sound wrong :(

the first UB40 album I have no problems with, I think I even own it.
They then became a glorified covers band, and because they are such a talisman for the city of Birmingham, and I live there, I hear them all the time, especially their covers of Kingston Town, and Homely Girl. When I heard they had got rid of Ali Campbell, I must admit I was surprised, but to hear of him murdering Beatles, Stones, Roxy Music, and even Free is just shameful. It makes Phil Collins' soul covers album look good!

True.
he's got a very distinctive voice too, he could do so much better it's a real shame.
It does sound like he cobbled it together in his mates bedroom on a synth and a PC

I think Rod Stewart was about the 1st, must be a good money maker for them, i mean you get a well known singer that's flagging a bit chuck some old fav's in the mix for him to belt out, and fanny's your aunt MONEY

THE MUSIC INDUSTRY HAS A LOT TO ANSWER FOR !!!!!!!

I have Present Arms ('81) and UB40 Live ('83) and if I have to admit to it, Rat in Mi Kitchen on 7" - but I'd agree that they went down hill rapidly... Sad, really, as they were unique.

No worse than David Bowie's 'Pin Ups'.

Like most posters I got bored after 1 minute of listening. One thing though, Ali Campbell has good taste in songs, even if he does emasculate them!

Regards

Pin ups isn't that bad!

There are a few great covers albums (Metallica - Garage Inc, Johnny Cash - American Recordings, etc)
There are LOTS of terrible covers albums, but I see Pin Ups somewhere in between, along with Bryan Ferry's These Foolish Things....

I thought Ferry's 'These Foolish Things' rather good, much better than Bowie's 'Pin Ups', but then I was/am a big Roxy fan.

but surely Pin Ups isn't as bad as this:

PQeBjzV791g

I mean listen to it, it's a travesty!

PS I'm also a big Roxy fan.... are you going to go and see them on their imminent tour?

I have (see my post, no 19) - and yet it's awful, as we all agree. 'Pin Ups' is not as bad but 'These Foolish Things' is, in my opinion, much better.
