Monitor Audio Bronze BR2: Acoustic Energy Neo 1 V1: Celestion F18:

Does anyone know anything about any of these loudspeakers that may be of assistance to me...?

Apart from the fact that they are all going cheap at the mo...!

BR2's are fine and only a slight "rawness" shows their humble origins - and then only when directly compared to anything more refined..

Not sure I like many AE speakers that much - apologies - and I don't know the Celestions.

Not much help, am I?

The fact is that I have sold my huge Dali's but don't have to buy a stopgap pair of speakers. I could simply go without until my financial situation improves and buy the speakers I actually want and can then afford. Ultimately, I would like a pair of Sterling Broadcast Monitors but that maybe some time in the future.

Psst - Harbeth P3ESR's..... Far better than any of the other LS3/5A clones.......... ;)

Better they may be but then they cost considerably more and so should be.

I recently replaced a set of KEF Cresta IIs in my bedroom system with BR2s. They sound a lot better than the KEFs and better than the refurbished AR18s I have too.

I also think they sound better than the Wharfedale Diamond 9.1s I have in my surround sound system.

Thanks for that Canetoad, I suspected the Monitor Audio's would be the best and unlike the Celestion's, not made in China.

Hamish, I love the S520's but can never find any secondhand examples at the right price.

The Mission 760is were pretty good, I presume the 780's are too big for your requirements.

There're quite a few on ebay at the moment

Ok Ok, I just lurve KEF's Uni-Q driver and the stereo image it produces. I'll keep a watch on these little beauties.

And if you get them cheap enough the following is a straight drop in upgrade...

...I use these in 3 pairs of 780SEs and they are very nice indeed.

...a good option too, and even smaller I think.

There're so many good speakers out on ebay I doubt I'll ever buy new again, even an idiot like me can repair speakers...usually :)

Thank you so much for that link. I feel a New Year project coming on. Fancy internal cables and some rather nice crossover components. :)

I'm probably keeping the company afloat, I've replaced all 8 drivers in my 753s (a complete transformation), and then 6 more in 3 pairs of 780s. The chaps at Wilmslow audio put me onto them...unfortunately they charge a little more for them.

Really make a difference, very punchy and fast, can't recommend them enough as an upgrade for that period of missions.

Have fun...:)

Save yer money on the fancy internal cables, as they are only ever going to be as good as the cable you use between speakers and amp, go for the best caps ad inductors you can afford.
