View Full Version : Favourite album release of 2010.
My favorite is Natalie Merchant Leave Your Sleep.
I bought this album having heard this track.

Overall, I think this is a totally charming album. It’s based around a selection of poem/nursery rhymes that Natalie has put to music.

Nice one John :) I quite liked that :)
Unfortunately my choice would be a little different, without a doubt this album has been very well mastered, but the best thing about it is that every track (if you are into this genre of music) is a cracker! There are no fillers :eyebrows:
It's hard to pick a favourite & they are all (imo) up there with some of the best of this musical style that i have heard...
A friend came round with it, i'm now looking for the original for myself but it's like horse feathers
Sunchase - Static Nitro (http://www.discogs.com/Sunchase-Static-Nitro/release/2338139)

Cheers John, just bought a copy.
Good call, John - I was going to start a thread with exactly the same theme, now Christmas has passed. Unfortunately I haven't actually decided on my favourite yet, so I'll have to come back to it later!
with out doubt this years best release for me has been....

If anyone else posts a link to a listenable track is really helpful. I’m still trying to find your pick Mark :(

Nice one, John, that's in my Amazon basket.
The best release of 2010 for me was probably Katie Melua: The House

For me, it has to be Hybrid - Disappear Here.

You’re not playing Andre. You know too much
Sound job Mark, thanks.
Going to check that one out MartinT, Thanks.
Quite like some of that Paul. Thanks.
My choice: Scott Mckeon - Trouble

I have to agree, thanks to AlexUK and DSDL Neil. I've played this countless times and never tire of it (Morning Sci-Fi from 2003 is great too).
There's a special edition CD with a second disc and I might give meself a new year present.
As for other music, I have so many LP's and CD's I've not played in years I can't take much new music, even if I could afford to :)
Right Mark, I’ve given the links a listen.
As you mention, I’m not going to be able to get my hands on a copy.
I’m not well up on this type of music so if you could recommend one good album from 2010 that is available what would it be? Please, thank you, and the Volts say thanks :)
I like the Scott Mckeaon Trouble Mothman. I might get that :)

The Scott McKeon is also very good,as is "Diamonds in the Dirt" by Joanne Shaw Taylor.

The first part of this is a bit of a shit answer (stick with me) as it came out in 2007 - 'Oracular spectacular' by 'mgmt' has found it's way into my collection this year and I can safely say it's the album I have listened to most by almost 5 times anything else at a guess ...
They have bought out a new album this year called 'congratulations' that I'm currently getting into that has a track on it called 'Siberian Breaks' that is rather good!! ... I think they might have been listening to 'forever changes' ...

Well according to my cataloguing system (itunes) I've purchased 49 new releases from 2010 - almost one a week, and probably too many for my bank balance (note to wife: above is a typo - should read I've purchased 4 new releases from 2010...;))
Andy and Dave R are spot on with the Hybrid release, definitely one of my faves from this year. However in the interests of variety, I will go with:
Trentemøller - Into the Great Wide Yonder
This is just an amazing track...

I haven’t got Hybrid yet (as in it hasn’t grabbed me)
I think I may just buy it and see if it grows on me.
I can’t get on with Robert Plant Chris but the Joanne Shaw Taylor is cool.
(working my way through the rest)

Superb album, you should check out the Harbour Boat trips mix too. which has a remix of 'Ghost Rider' by suicide, which obviously inspired the above track...
For me 2010 saw the release of the Fall's finest effort to date 'Your future our clutter'...

Just bought this album today complete with book and played it for the first time on my mates 30k system, certainly very good but found her vocals seem to have been over voiced and tend to shout at you a bit, certainly a bit different from normal stuff i listen to, i will give it go on my feeble system later to see if its the same

I've hardly got any new albums from 2010 (plenty of reissues released this year though) - what does that say about me?
Move over Andre!

(probably not my favourite of the year though, I'll come back later when I've properly thought about it)

Not as good as last year but this is a favorite. I think its been done by young people but its very good.
John Grant - Queen of Denmark...beautiful album very sad and funny at the same time. He is backed by Midlake and it is quite simply a wonderful album from start to finish. It won Mojo album of the year and well deserves it. Although I bough tons of 2010 releases most were reissues.
Agree. I cant buy the Midlake album because i know it will be a disappointment in comparison. Saw him live at the Union Chapel in summer ,best gig in ages.

I didn't realise they'd had a new one out. Their first two albums are fab; and they're great live too (I've heard a few radio broadcasts). I hope their new one is as good as the oldies. I'll check it out on Spotify.

and Divine Comedy- Bang Goes The Knighthood too.

The Duke and the King. I couldnt get that excited about the Felice Brothers but this is quality.
bruce springsteen the promise and mavis stales your not alone,2 great vocalists, maria,im going to check out sunchase,i have a few electronic and drum and base music, maria
I'm a huge Springsteen fan (71 shows and counting) but I thought The Promise was a but if a let down
But the remastered Darkness was excellent, but I have mostly been listening to a audio rip of the Darkness play through from the Asbury Park Paramount more then anything else, Racing In The Street is just awesome.
that is an amazing number of concerts you saw him at,iv never been lucky enough to see him,im not his biggest fan but i enjoyed this album,im now listening to blonde on blonde,b dylan, and enjoyin a red wine and a piece of dark chocolate, cheers maria:cool:
