View Full Version : Squeezebox playlists for the lazy man...

Following my mantra of 'laziness is the mother of invention'...

Creating playlists of any size for Squeezebox can be a slow process, whether by the web interface, the controller, or even a phone app, as it's all occurring at the server end.

Squeezebox uses the same format for playlists as winamp (there are probably others that use the same format too).

Connect an instance of 'Winamp' to your squeezebox music library, remotely or physically, then create and save the playlist as you normally would, drag and drop etc., and save locally.

Then using a decent text editor (textpad is free and very good) do an edit/replace for the prefix part of the file address, so that it matches the address from the perspective of SqueezeCenter/Server. Save that separately, then copy it to the playlist location for your SqueezeCenter/Server instance.

Perform a rescan, and away you go!

Just knocked up my Christmas playlist of over 2k tracks in under 30 mins...which is nice :)

The '.m3u' file type used by Squeezebox for playlists is a windows/winamp format...

...so I doubt you could simulate this on a MAC.

There may be some MAC software out there for Itunes to Squeezebox conversion, if not there's a nice little niche in the market for someone...

Grrr! I'm beginning to develop serious issues with Apple. These guys appear to be full of shit.

This is why marriage counselling is a booming industry.
