At 61 ' i always thought him a fine example of how a good journalist should be , a sad loss ! 2 of his finest moments ' The Falklands war and the fall of the Berlin wall .

61's nothing these days, is it? Most of the Hippy generation are well into their sixties now and it must have been a virulent Cancer that took him as his final illness was short it appears. My condolences to his family..

Been a few gone this year that were familiar faces from childhood. Harry Carpenter, Michael Foot. All will be missed.:(

Very sad :( a quality journalist in an every increasing world of sound bite insubstantial waffle are hard to find imho and he was one of the greats.

He will be missed.
